Simo5555 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Hi guys! First off - Happy new year! 🙃 So, lets kick this year off with some new model car projects. Wanted to try something different than my regular old american muscle cars (i'm secretly planning to tackle the infamous Pagani Huayra by Aoshima this year). So this is my first build of the year, a real exotic - the Mclaren 570s. One of the best looking cars of this decade IMO. Kit already looks more difficult to build than your regular old kits. So lets see how it goes 7
Simo5555 Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 Day 1 ooh, supercars are cool to build totally different breed of cars than old V8-s. Kit itself is also pretty good. Not as good as the Beetle, but still a lot better than those old tool cars. Theres a fair bit of flashing, but nothing major. Details are also very good. I'm a bit hangover from new years eve, but still decided to do some painting. Still waiting for the body paint to arrive - not going to spoil it yet, but it should look really good when its done. 2
Rich Chernosky Posted January 1 Posted January 1 This is a great little kit. You are off to a great start. I did one of these back on July 23 of last year. Will be interested to see your take on this cool looking car. 1
Simo5555 Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Did some work on the engine. Not so sure about how the exhaust came out anymore. Maybe ill dip it into the Dot oil and try to re-do it. 4
Simo5555 Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 So, decided to redo the exhaust. So into the alcohol it went. Then repainted it without the blue shade Came out a lot better, but still not the way i wanted it to be. Still pretty happy with it - looks a lot better than before: Then did the brakes, lights and wheels Somehow the manual shows that the engine crossmember-thingy should be black and silver, but every reference pictures shows it as plain black. So i painted it black: Then it was time for the interior. Tub is painted, the seats are also half way done: Also did some work on the engine bay: 5
dino246gt Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I'm digging' it already and I did build one, so I have a hint: Glue the door inner to the outer before paint, then mask off the interior colors. This is because of the terrible fit of the inner and outer AND the thickness of the outer, that can be thinned before paint and the seam can be filled also before paint! I loved building mine until final assembly and I saw this: 1

Simo5555 Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 (edited) Exhaust is pretty much done Couldnt find any good pictures of the turbos on 1:1 car so had to improvise. Painted the intake hose black and added a small strip of foil to look like a hose clamp Then glued them to the engine After that, some testfitting before assembly Looks pretty cool already And did some quick work on the brake discs too - these are also done now So, bodywork is next Edited January 13 by Simo5555 2
Simo5555 Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 Did some more work on the interior The dash is pretty much done - only some decal work left 2
Bainford Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Nice, tidy work. This is going to be one cool machine. 1
Technics Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Looking forward to seeing more, I just got this kit in a chance bulk purchase! 1
Zippi Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I'm liking this build Simo. Great looking color choices and that interior is looking Super sharp. 1
Simo5555 Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 (edited) Thanks guys Did some more detailing work Did the carpeting, decals and I also used the Ammo mig crystal glass for the gauges. Cool stuff. After that, seats, dash and everything else So interior is done! Edited January 15 by Simo5555 3
Mattilacken Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Nice work! Cool to see a re elk kit that seem to fit together. 1
Simo5555 Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 So, about these doors... They seems to be the biggest issue with this kit - they wont sit very well. So I was thinking of glueing them in anyway. So after a lot of trial and error, i got them in: This created another issue - the doorpanels doesnt fit anymore without some modifying. Like Dennis said before, they wont fit well anyway so i decided to modify them a bit smaller and thinner. So now, they should slot right in without issues. After that, i did my usual wetsanding session: And some more priming and wetsanding: The orange plastic is quite a nightmare to work with - it seems like whatever i do, the orange will still shine through. So finally got the prime coat smooth enough and i'll let it dry for a day before starting again with the next step..... which is more priming 😁 2
Greasefinger Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I have occationally used metallic sprays like Tamiya TS-83 as a barrier for automotive paints to prevent the paint melting the plastic. They might help stop the orange bleed through also. You can of course prime the sealer with the ordinary primer. 2
dino246gt Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Excellent solution to those doors! I'm going to be gluing the panels closed on the Pagani Huayra, gorgeous car, terrible fitting opening panels. Your McLaren is looking spectacular so far! I had to use a hair dryer for the roof decal, if you're using that, look out! 1
Simo5555 Posted January 18 Author Posted January 18 (edited) So, Day 2 of painting the body First, a quick wash with dishsoap. After that, into the booth it went Two more coats of primer later And then two coats of black primer. Came out pretty nice. Although, found some very tiny scratches still visible, but nothing serious. The paint and clear should hide them pretty well Seems like i can finally get to the painting 😎 Although, it looks pretty evil in satin black Edited January 18 by Simo5555 1

The decals from the kit has a bit grayish color which i'm not a big fan of. 1
