Time for a fresh project me thinks! I’ve accumulated a fair number of 32 ford kits and bits n pieces over time and now it’s time to get back at the bench. I’ll start with an og 1997 Revell issue and will add my touches to it. I’m going for a postwar hot rod and Flathead ford powered.

I’ll be using some of the finest resin cast pieces to exist imo. The wheel and tire set are from the Revell 29 ford pickup (ratrod edition)

That little 32 looks like a Great project.  Nice looking aftermarket parts for the build.

I built one when that kit was first issued, probably more than 25 years ago. I didn't do a great job of it, but it sure is a fine kit! I have it as my avitar! Headlight lenses upside down.

I did use a flathead though!

Yours sounds like it'll be very cool indeed, cheers!

Kool project.

What is the gearbox you are using as I have a chopped 5W I am gathering parts for and they are very similar to yours, eg Thickstun gear . I am looking at using the Sedan flat motor but don't want to run with the attached auto. By using a long tail shaft manual box you don't need to move the Revell chassis K member as it is quite a bit further back than on a stock chassis.

Will be watching with a lot of interest

Some Thickstun ref pix for you that I sourced from the interweb. The black and red motor is from the Speedway (Bills) collection.

It’s supposed to be a ford 4 speed, but I am unsure of the kit source, I may switch to a Cad Lasalle if I can’t verify the source and generation of the trans.
Thank you for the 1:1 resource pics.

Always something fun coming from your bench Bil. looking forward to it.

Thanks Craig I appreciate the kind words I’ll be pulling out some of my fanciest coats with the tricks up the sleeves.

Thank you Dennis! I’ll do my best to get this one above my usual level. I’ve been plotting this one in my head for a bit.

Thank you Bob, Drag city casting and Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland make some awesome parts. Both are great to deal with.

According to the chart below, it looks most like a New Process 421 to me (as fitted to Mopar A-bodies from 1960 on), but it's missing the cast-in shifter bosses on the tailshaft housing.

That doesn't mean a whole lot though. There are so many American manual boxes, I almost always have to research one I have to work on before I even know what it is.

EDIT: Note the reverse shifter boss under the rear of the side cover. 420-series NP boxes are the only ones on the chart with that feature.

Thank you Bill, that makes the decision to use a cad lasalle box that much easier!

Bill I’m going to follow along!

Thank you Carl!
On today’s episode we pull out some of the tricks from the old dusty coats. Some of you may remember that last year I had embarked on an adventure of backdating the revell 32 ford frame to a stock version. Well no better time to use it than now. As this will be a post war hot rod it had just as well have the correct underpinnings, banjo rear end, but a tube axle in the front with everyone’s favourite “Posable steering”. Now the keen observer will notice disc brakes on the front which may not be complete era correct but I like them and they are staying.

The start of the Lasalle conversion, the gearbox is from the Micky Thompson four engined salt streamlined, the adapter plate from an Anglia dragster. And the flathead block from the revell Tudor. I’ve used this combo in the past and it provides pleasing results. The adaptor plate is harvested from a glue bomb ands it far from perfect and will take some effort to clean up the glue. But it’s under the body and will not be visible once assembled, so I’ll make it as clean looking as I can.

A little nip n tuck and we have the trans mounted so it’s now a true hot rod and will have three pedals. Just need to add the lowers for the front engine mounts and it will sit perfectly.

Well we have a change of plans already on this build. The frame that I was going to use is kinda sorta already slated for a different 32 build to which I am still amassing parts for.

So we will use another frame from my frame collection of last year, this one will use the underpinnings from the monogram 32 roadster on a revell frame which has a mild Z.  Which changes the era slightly, everything after 1945 is post war correct😜
Some adjustments in the rear torque tube will take place for length. Still have to add front engine mounts for the flattie. Wheels are for mock-up purpose only!
Next up will be finalization of the frame/suspension and some engine and exhaust head scratching.

Also in the wings some interior mods as this ole timer will have three pedals!

Change of plans already Bil, I think that’s the norm more then the exception around this place.😄 I like the stance of the mock-up, ready to roll on down the highway.

Well Len, I have a lot of parts and a fair bit of patience so the only absolutes are the body and the engine haha. The stance will change slightly as I have to decide if it’s gonna be a highboy or will I channel it over the frame.
stay tuned

Dang Bench Squirrels again, huh?

Yes and no, I realized that the original frame was needed for another project and that one takes priority over this, can’t steal too much from the archives. I only have one project on the bench atm as my time is limited so I have to see one to completion, my discipline has slipped. But I have healthily raided my parts bins to hopefully make this one pretty special.
