customline Posted February 20 Author Posted February 20 I haven't done many chassis swaps. I felt like this one would be easy enough and worth my effort. So far, it has been. One thing that I'm kind of anal about is closing up the "unimproved" areas that can be observed from the bottom around the transmission tunnel. The AMT kit is completely different in design from the Revell. The problem with this build is getting all three components to come together in final assembly and everything to mate up with the additional pieces I have attached to close it up. I don't know of a better solution so this is mine. It ain't great, folks, and I made errors that need correcting but, hopefully, it will accomplish the goal. The gaps between the firewall and inner fenders were closed 👇 The work was tedious due to the constant assembly and disassembly. 😩 I extended the Revell floor out to the firewall and then got busy cutting card stock templates. I used various guages of styrene sheet scraps (I have an abundance) and attached with various suitable glues. Getting sloppy with CA is a sort of bad habit and..... 😒 moving on....... All 3 components had to be in their places in order to make the pieces but I could only attach the pieces to one of them in such a way as to be able to assemble everything at the final. When this area is painted, I think it will, at the very least, not draw attention to itself 🥴. More on this later. There's some clean-up needed but the holes are closed. On a lighter note, these two are now married. 👇 Well, stuck with each other. 🤣 Sorry if this wasn't interesting but it needed to be done. Thanks for stopping by. 🤓 5 1
LennyB Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Well, it's a whole lot better then duct tape.😁 I think by the time you paint everything it will look nice and tidy. 1
James2 Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Your effort shows, But I thought Duct tape fixed everything!

LennyB Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Jim, you put an idea in my head and now that idea is spinning out of control and I'm wishing I hadn't seen this thread.🤪 The idea of the Revell chassis reminded me I have a Revell 48 Ford Woody Chassis left over from my 41 Plymouth Woody project. Yes, again, the Plymouth rears it's ugly head. And like you I don't like to see things go to waste. Want to build a Roadkill '39 Bootleg Ford and I have to use the sedan fenders so I can use the '39 grill. I'm surprised there are so many differences between the fender units on the Sedan and the Coupe. The body is a Vic's resin 4-dr which is an issue all it's own. But getting back to the chassis, the 48 chassis is just a bit longer and the fuel tank is different and the X-frame is scalloped. So I'm starting to think this chassis isn't going to work. Not without a whole lot of expletives. 💩 Maybe I need to go work on a Chevy.🤐

Glued the wheels on assuming it would be okay. I may end up reverting to the $hitty AMT chassis.

Well I guess if we don’t have obstacles to overcome this would be a boring af hobby. I’m not sure but I believe @David G. coined a phrase about creating problems. You got this Jim.

I’ll watch this one though and get my pain vicariously.😎 1

It will look okay in an acrylic box on the shelf but I can't undo the front track issue, there's just nowhere to go with it. This happened due to my impatience to do a full mock-up. Lesson learned.

Bullybeef Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I can happily confirm that there are no 41 Plymouth’s in my neck of the woods!

LennyB Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I may have to break down and buy the other file and see if I can find an alien to do the printing. 1

customline Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 This one is making a little progress lately and I know how much we all love mock-ups so here we go. Did I mention that I totally love this body style? Got more work to do on the chassis like an exhaust system which will be exiting in front of the rear wheels. The Columbia rear end needs some detailing, brake lines, etc. The interior mohair has been painted with Krylon satin "sand dollar" and will just be stock. It still needs a coat of flat. Not sure what I'm doing with the dash but it will get an added guage panel below with four guages. A floor shift will replace the stock column lever which has been removed and the socket drilled out. I plan to use the AMT windshield and vent wings from the latest kit but the side and rear glass will be scratch material (the original glass was not good.) No decision on the body color yet but it will be stockish, maybe khaki or maroon. Thanks for coming by and your comments are always appreciated. 4
dino246gt Posted March 2 Posted March 2 That looks great! I love doing all kinds of heavy mods like you did to make this work. The thing to keep in mind all the way is, since you've basically re-engineered the kit, "HOW can I assemble these pieces once they're so modified"! You've done it, isn't it so rewarding!

Had a 1:1 '46 Ford sedan with this body style many moons ago.
