customline Posted May 2 Author Posted May 2 Back from oblivion! No more Krylon for me. Tamiya TS-11 Maroon found it's way into my hand on my last trip to the LHS. Much better. This is the raw color coat and it's pretty smooth but will be micro-polished. Does anyone understand Tamiya paint color designations? Spray cans and bottles of the same color have different numbers. Weird 🤔. OK, a quick mock-up 👇 Thanks for your undying interest! 😉 6

I must say there is a significant up-side to the AMT kit and that is when it comes to the post paint sanding/polishing operation due to the fenders being separate, whereas the Revell is more difficult to perform that operation with fenders in the way. I've been thinking about a sanding "pen", and I'm entertaining recommendations 🤓

Way to coarse for colour sanding prior to polish I was thinking maybe buying just the replacement heads and attaching them to my used Sonicare brush heads and using the Sonicare. I would just need to turn it on every two minutes 😏...... a small price to pay.
NOBLNG Posted May 3 Posted May 3 (edited) Hi Jim! Glad to see you back…I was getting worried about you.😜 That is looking really nice! I’ve never seen a model that the Tamiya maroon doesn’t look good on. I’ve made a few simple sanding sticks that might work for you. The top left one I made to reach in through the windows to sand ejection marks off the headliners. Edited May 3 by NOBLNG 1 1

Yeah, Greg, I've actually been working on a third '40 to keep me busy while waiting for paint removal and such; just using up all the stuff from the other two. I haven't posted it, it's just for fun. Wifey has some double sided tape that I'm going to appropriate to bond some paper to small shapes like you have there. I'm serious about the Sonicare 😁.
LennyB Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Jim, right now me and my Sonicare aren’t talking to one another. Battery died so I took it all apart to put in a new battery. New battery and then the shaft started loosening up. Took it apart replaced the shaft. After a week it was loose again, screw came loose even with locktite. Took it apart a third time, red locktite this time. It it misbehaves I’m turning it into a ‘39 Plymouth. 🔥

customline Posted Thursday at 04:24 AM Author Posted Thursday at 04:24 AM As you may know, the tudor is a combination of three kits....well, two kits and a rebuilder from fleabay. What to do with all that extra '40 ford material? Well, the Revell coupe, you may recall, was married to the fresh AMT chassis and is currently in the paint prep process and will be getting a bit more attention soon. That left me with a fresh AMT coupe body but a sorry-a55 chassis that I removed the rear end from (for another project). Long story short: I built a vintage nostalgia short track stocker. It was a fun project and I documented the build but I don't feel it's worth an entire build thread. It's not fancy. I used wheels from a NASCAR kit as well as a few other items. It does not depict any particular classification of vehicle but rather a cross-section of various cars I found on the web. It leans more toward 1/4 - 1/2 mile banked oval tracks in the early to late '50s with more modern wheels and tires. It's not accurate, I know that. And it's not 100% yet but it's close enough for now. It was just fun. Thanks for looking and your restrained criticism is always welcome 🙂. 4
Bullybeef Posted Thursday at 11:54 AM Posted Thursday at 11:54 AM “Restraining” the criticism might be a tall Ask Jim. I like it.
NOBLNG Posted Thursday at 12:23 PM Posted Thursday at 12:23 PM I would have followed you on that build Jim.👍

Twas no big deal. 🥴 15 hours ago, NOBLNG said: I would have followed you on that build Jim.👍 It was just the usual stuff with an AMT chassis and some simple scratch stuff. Nothing you haven't seen before, Greg. The mesh was from a tea ball. Tires from the stash. Heads are MCG. Just having fun with left-over parts and Evergreen. There was something inspired by Lenny, though. The "hood" hinges. I noticed some of the cars I researched used flat sheet metal or cut-down hoods and fastened them with outside hinges. I made some functional gate hinges. I figured it would be an easy way for the 1:1 builder to slap a hood on and use readily available items that could be welded on to hinge it. Gate hinges! 🙂 2 1
LennyB Posted yesterday at 12:15 PM Posted yesterday at 12:15 PM Cool bit of recycling there Jim, waste not want not. I like the body work on the fenders, looks quite realistic. Not sure if it’s good advertising for an auto body shop🥴

I tried to get a job there once 50 years ago so I don't feel bad. But here's a scenario: it gets banged up during the qualifying heat and they pull it out as best they can in the pit and now it's time for the feature. It's embarrassing, but at least it's still able to finish the night. Right? Or...there's the irony aspect. Yeah 🤔. It's explainable.
LennyB Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago You want irony, there is a body shop somewhere in my area, I’ve never found the place, called Northside Auto Body, I see their license plate frame on cars just about everyday, good advertising for them I guess, but I don’t know that I would want to tell everyone that my car had work done in a body shop?
Ace-Garageguy Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Cool project, and interesting offshoots too. Many years back I started an AMT '36 Ford on Revell '40 rails (the chassis are basically the same from '35-'40 cars and '35-'41 pickups) to do a replica of an old friend's Caddy-powered '36. I got pretty far along, but after he went to the big junkyard in the sky, I kinda lost interest. Your build here might inspire me to drag it across the line. Edited 22 hours ago by Ace-Garageguy 1
