Coyote_6 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 (edited) They say there's a lot of stuff going around. I got at least two bugs at the same time. First, 1970's Funny Cars. Second, that sparkly gel-coat fiberglass from the 70's - we had a snowmobile and matching helmet in that glittery red gel coat when I was a kid - it leaves an impression. Between the two, it was inevitable that I modeled Mr. Norm's Super Charger. I'll just leave these here... I used the following Krylon products to replicate the red flake gel coat in red. Overall pretty happy with how it came out. Sorry for the photo dump, trying to figure out if it's better to show all the angles or if less is more. Fun build, but these chassis are wonky on these kits - took a bit to get her leveled on all four. I think I need to figure out where to source scale braided line and fittings from. It would really help this model out. Thanks for checking it out. Steve Edited February 11 by Coyote_6 9
M W Elky Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Very well done that paint job looks beyond excellent . I wish I had that paint option when I built mine 14 years ago. When I painted mine while the candy red was still wet I stood way back and misted it with diamond dust silver . Yours came out way better and yeah these chassis are fussy to keep square . I don’t know about you but I never liked the shape of the side window opening on this charger body a little to rounded to my eye . 1
Coyote_6 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 @M W Elky Yeah. The windows are a little rounded for sure - I think it's the whole roofline portion of the side window is rounded on this kit. Actual car ("A" pillar to roofline has a sharp bend, circled): The kit: And another "random" Charger : But thank you so much for the kind words. I am pretty pleased with it all things considered.
R. Thorne Posted February 11 Posted February 11 There is a lot to look at here (especially like the Indy natl’s participant decal). You do excellent work. Great pictures, too. Takes me back to my days at Indy watching funny cars run. Outstanding! 1
Mike 1017 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 That is a beautiful build of a historic NHRA Funny Car. Mike 1
Old Buckaroo Posted February 11 Posted February 11 "cough cough" I think I caught your bug. After seeing this beautifully painted Charger - I ordered two of them. Mr Norms turned out great - that is one to be proud of. I had one of those gold sparkle helmets that came with the old '55 ex drag car I bought. I left with the car for the next owner. 1
Hmann68 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Looks great! These are tricky kits but they sure look good 👍 1
Zippi Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Great looking drag car Steve. That Krylon paint worked out pretty good. 1
Mopar2 Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Very cool...The detail is awesome..Great build od a classis Funny Car. 1
Jim Whalen Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Nice build of a historic funny car - I like the way that your red paint turned out. I have one of these kits to build - yours has given me some ideas of how to proceed. For braided line and fittings visit Detail Master's website. They really help capture the character of drag engines. 1
