Russell C Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Yesterday at the community dumpsters, somebody threw out what looked like a perfectly good little LED purple metal body flashlight that probably only needed new batteries - seemingly so down on power that its light looked like blue fading out to a pathetic purple, I thought. Put in new batteries at midday under my kitchen skylight, bright enough, but still on the purple side. At twilight this evening, I used it to look for a model parts box down in the shelves opposite my models display —- I did not know until right then that the lower section of my Kyle Petty Pontiac wagon I'd painted back in 1992 was a fluorescent green. Looks like a regular medium green in the sunlight. On top of that, I didn't know LED technology includes black light capability. (more or less knew I'm way behind dusting off my display models … 😂 ) 1
peteski Posted June 27 Posted June 27 What you seem to have Russell is a special UV LED flashlight. LEDs which emit long-wave UV light are readily available. They are mainly used for setting UV-cure resins, but they also have plenty of other uses. Here is some info about UV LEDs https://www.broadcom.com/products/leds-and-displays/ultraviolet-leds 1

At home, we use them in the garden at night to hunt down tomato horn worms. Do NOT use them in hotel rooms, you'll never sleep in one again after seeing all the invisible "spots". Ha. 4

A more benevolent use of UV/black lights than scaring yourself in motel rooms is finding pet stains to treat in your carpet... 1
sidcharles Posted June 27 Posted June 27 #1. if you are reading the funny pages in the newspaper and blink your eyes really fast, the characters seem to jump up & down. #2. most people really don't want an honest opinion, they just want you to agree with them. 1
Calb56 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 I learned about this today... https://www.hemmings.com/stories/for-prewar-speed-enthusiasts-the-roof-ohv-conversion-is-tops/ You can get a 3d printer file for it too https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/roof-101-for-amt-1929-ford-exhaust/similar-designs I want one for my 29 Ford roadster...not certain about the carb manifold on it. Oh wait, I also learned I don't have a 3d printer. 1 1

Didn't HAVE to work today, but I was going in to the shop at about 9:30 in the cool to maybe get a little ahead, especially since next week is short. Here it is 12:21 and I'm still playing on the computer. More self discipline would seem to be in order. Ah well. There's still the hot sticky afternoon to work in. EDIT: You know...perhaps there's a clue here as to why most of my cars don't run and I don't "have time" to build models any more, ya think??? Now it's 12:31. Edited June 28 by Ace-Garageguy
Calb56 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 (edited) I learned about a new rabbit hole... Winfield carburetor. Now if someone would make them 1/25. Edited June 28 by Calb56 2

Drank from the hose, was out riding my Schwinn Stingray all over h-ll and back, rode in pick up beds, rode in the car without baby seats or even seat belts, a lot of second hand smoke and still kicking. 2
espo Posted Tuesday at 09:48 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:48 PM Never bothered with the hose for a drink, the water inside was usually hot anyway. Just put your lips to the faucet and turn it on, and I'm still alive and well. 1
meechum68 Posted Tuesday at 11:30 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:30 PM That when work wants feedback, they don't want the truth but what they want to hear. Let's just say I get to have some fun conversations, cuz I keep pointing out inequality in my group that is different from other groups outside my state. 1

Ace-Garageguy Posted Wednesday at 12:55 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:55 AM (edited) Today I learned that every now and then, I seem to need a remindery that I do things the way I do them for very good reasons. I'm usually quite conservative in the way I approach mechanical problems or mods or fabrication, not plodding, but fully thinking things out before I DO anything that I might possibly need to correct later. So today, being a little preoccupied with something personal, I tapped a 1/2" NPT hole in a very expensive intake manifold just a little too deep on the first pass, without checking the clocking of the fitting after every 1/2 turn of the tap...which is the way you do it if you're building something high-dollar that has to LOOK perfect as well as function. As a result, the fitting I wanted to use is rather loose in the hole it goes in when it's clocked right for the hose run it connects to. Can I fix it? Sure. But is there any excuse for needing to? No. No. Nope. Pay attention, Bill. Every minute. It only takes a few slips to become a chimpchanic. Edited Wednesday at 04:07 AM by Ace-Garageguy 3
