LennyB Posted March 15 Posted March 15 (edited) I've been gathering up parts for this build for quite a while. Anyone who has watched Roadkill should be familiar with this car. I've never done a patina paint job so I figured this would be a worthy subject to start with. This is our goal. And sorry guys, it does not have a flathead. Had an old AMT 39/40 Tudor Sedan beater that I thought would be a good candidate. This body has had several different paint colors over the years. Went from black to orange to sitting in the purple pond for weeks because the paint was thick headed. This was a 70's issue of the kit that was molded in Maroon, back when Lesney ran the ranch. They had the best decals back then didn't they. I think the guy who designed these went on to work at Burger King. Fenders were from an earlier release and were molded in white. Also from a 39/40 kit as I needed to use the standard grill for this masterpiece of junk. While this was soaking I came across a resin 4-dr body on pukebay for $20.00 that I thought would make my life easier. Because in addition to the thick paint my body was melted slightly in the lower right rear. I made the mistake of buying it. It's a Vic's Resin and it turned out to be more work then it's worth. It was warped when I got it which a little hot water was able to resolve. But even after this you can see it doesn't fit the AMT chassis. Then it also is not a good rendition. If you look at the stock vehicle the "C" pillar is slanted forward, the resin body is not. That pillar is also too far to the rear making the third side window smaller then it should be. The "B" pillar also needs to be moved closer to the front. So if I have to go move both pillars and add a slant to "C" and re-scribe the door lines, I might as well go back to the original AMT body . So now we start working on the AMT body. As I mentioned the body was slightly melted in the right rear. I think it was laid down on a hot soldering iron at some point. Filled the melted bit with some sprue-goo and we should be good. Also missing half our firewall. Well, maybe not half, 30%? The next part of this which I'm going to torture myself with is I am going to try to use the chassis from a Revell '48 Ford Woody that is left over from my '41 Plymouth Woody project. That's right, the Plymouth is sneaking in here again. Only because I live by the philosophy WWJD. That "J" stands for Jim people. I know you thought I meant Jesus. As far as I know Jesus didn't build any AMT model kits. He did build a WMT Chalice once. How do I know? I dug it up last week on Oak Island while Marty and Rick were sleeping. Not sure if the chassis idea is going to work, or if it is just crazy thinking. The Revell chassis is longer. Maybe it will just be a mash-up of the two. Anyway for now I will leave you with a preview video of the Roadkill bootleg Ford. See ya later.... Edited March 15 by LennyB 6
Bullybeef Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Well it seems like you are off to a start on this project, interested to see how you weather it.

Looking good Lenny. Thanks guys, I hope I can do it justice. The paint is going to be the (not so) fun part. 1
bill-e-boy Posted March 15 Posted March 15 A good start on an iconic car You could mordorise the tudor with your skills
LennyB Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 Thanks for the encouragement Bill, I'll see what I can do. 1
customline Posted March 16 Posted March 16 (edited) And I thought I was nuts.....🤣 Edit: I just watched the video. It brought me back to some fun days removing sludge from some y-blocks back in the day. Gotta love those. Edited March 16 by customline
espo Posted March 16 Posted March 16 I wouldn't be too worried about the damage to the lower body since you're going for the beater look anyway.
LennyB Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 @espo you are right, but I just want to get the bottom of the door even.
BK9300 Posted March 17 Posted March 17 In a way, the earliest pic of the body could have been a good beater just as it was! Should be a good project.

LennyB Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 Had to get something done on the 40 this week. "B" pillar has been removed, so have the door handles and the side trim. Also the door seam has been welded shut. Now if this next photo looks a bit odd it's because I took that photo of the 40 Fordor from up above and scaled it to match the body of the kit. Then I cut it down and inserted it inside the body. Sort of like Lionel passenger cars when they had the cellophane windows with the silhouettes of passengers. Well, not exactly as there isn't anyone sitting in the car. Sorry, I digress. No, actually what I am doing here is figuring out where to place the new "B" and "C" pillars. You can see how much the "B" pillar needs to move forward. I was hoping to have more done at this point but I'm waiting for some styrene strips that are in the mail. Hopefully the USPS does there job and I can move forward on this. 'tll then Happy Trails. 2
LennyB Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 So, it may not appear that much progress was made this week but actually a lot of work happened while the world was sleeping. Our Tudor is now a Fordor. Almost looks too nice to have to give it the beater look now, but that is what I am committed to do. Need t do a bit more work on the corners of the window openings to add some curvature but I think we are pretty close. WDYT? 1

BK9300 Posted March 31 Posted March 31 I'd say so, too. I've got a panel line tool, but not sure I'd get four, new lines in as straight as you have - looking good!
