catpack68 Posted March 21 Posted March 21 (edited) I just finished up this up a couple of days ago. My coworker Chris wanted me to build a replica of the 72 Nova SS that his mother bought brand new.I started with the Revell 69 Nova SS kit.I sanded off the vents off the front fenders and modified the tailights.i added the vinyl top using black masking tape and Plastruct strips. The color is ScaleFinishes 1972 Chevrolet 56 Cream Yellow. The clear is Splash 2k.The pin stripes are from an old Last Decal 67 Camaro decal sheet. The wheels are from AMT Old Pro Nova kit.The tire decals are Powerslide. The correct bucket seats are from a MPC 70s Firebird and the steering wheel is a modified MPC 73 Impala item. The interior features a modified kit console and scratchbuilt automatic shifter. The seatbelt buckles are GM Model Car Garage photo etched items with ribbon seatbelts. The 4 speed transmission was replaced with the automatic transmission from the Revell 71 442 W30 kit.The engine is wired and plumbed. The air cleaner was modified with a single snorkel from the parts box.The valve covers are from parts box.The bottom molding and 350 emblems are from the Model Car Garage 70-72 Nova photoetched set.I also installed a 1972 North Carolina license plate. My coworker was excited to see it as well as his mother which made me happy! This was for her birthday.I also included pics of the Nova when it was brand new. Thanks for looking. espo Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Great looking replica of her '72 Nova SS. Like the color combination and the deluxe body trim. 1
VanGoGo Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Looks great! I owned a '73 Nova for many years, one my my favorite cars 😃 1
Falcon Ranchero Posted March 21 Posted March 21 That's cool; I do like the idea of repilcating past friend/family cars, though all the cars my family owned back then are hard to come by as model kits. The model Nova looks spot on compared to the real one in the old photos. Looks good 👍 1
STU111 Posted March 22 Posted March 22 You’ve done a great job replicating that Nova. It’s beautifully finished. I enjoy seeing builds based on someone’s actual car. Top stuff. 👍🏻 1
