NOBLNG Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 (edited) Well I’m not happy with the fit of the body/chassis/interior.🧐 I’m not sure if I screwed up or not? There are huge gaps at the cowl to engine bay, and you can see right through to the ground behind the seats. I’m not sure if the sills are supposed to clip in underneath the chassis or just be level with it like in this pic? The rear package tray interferes as do the front fender wells in order for the body to sit any lower. The rear window glass would also need some trimming. That said….every picture I find on here and on the web seem to have the same gaps to some degree. So I don’t think anyone has corrected it if it is even correctable? I don’t know if the body will then sit too low if I took it apart (not easy!🥵) and did all the grinding necessary to get the sills to clip in under the floor pan. So I think I will just leave it as is unless someone has some insight into the issues.😕 Edited April 12 by NOBLNG 1 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Nice save of a kit somebody apparently really tried hard to bugger. Friendamind owned and raced one when he was stationed on Okinawa decades ago.
NOBLNG Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 The body would have to drop a fair bit in order for the sills to clip under, but the stance looks pretty good right now. 2
NOBLNG Posted April 15 Author Posted April 15 (edited) Well after prying the body off again, I shaved some possible interference spots. I also measured the distance between the rocker panels and also the width of the floor pan. They are virtually identical so there is no way that the body is supposed to “clip in” underneath the floor pan. So the gaps at the cowl and behind the seats is the way that the kit is designed. If I were ever to build another, I would add some material in these spots before any other bodywork. But it is what it is on this one, so I am calling it done.🥵 More pics under glass here: https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/200167-fujimi-toyota-s-800/#comment-3015871 Edited April 16 by NOBLNG 2
Mark W Posted April 16 Posted April 16 A ton of details packed into this small package. A very impressive job! btw, what did you use for the chrome headlight rings?

I inserted some clear lens from the parts box before putting the clear cover on. 1

If I had to make something like this, I would first make a pattern from tape, then cut it out of thin styrene sheet, like 0.015”? Glue it on with Tamiya thin and then foil it. If it has compound curves like a funnel it could be made in a few sections and the seams puttied if necessary. Edited April 16 by NOBLNG 2

I will update you when I try it. 1
