johnyrotten Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Really pleased how this turned out. I tried to build a simple old school hotrod, and keep that old farm truck look to it. 15

Matt T. Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Neat! Lots of character. Love the stance, patina, engine, everything! 1
espo Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Love the crusty finish on the body and the vintage speed equipment on the Flathead.

No problem, the it's pretty durable, I used a morter and pestle to grind it bit finer. Use a brush you don't care about. Takes a couple coats. You can also apply the the createx straight and sprinkle it on to build it up.

I made some rust by soaking steel wool in vinegar & water. It makes a great rusty "wash". Maybe I should dry out the rust particles, and use your method with it.

I use a lot of washes and dry brushing in my builds, the scoops and headlights are molotow with a very thin wash, I actually handled the headlights to ruin the luster of the molotow. 1
ncbuckeye67 Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Growing up in northern Ohio, I saw my fair share of rust (that's why I'm not a huge fan). I do like the patina, surface rust, and weathered look though. I need to do more builds like this, because it's fairly easy to do a nice shiny paint job (at least I have pretty good luck). The rust and weathering take a lot more patience and effort, in my opinion. 1
johnyrotten Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 (edited) Upstate New York, I'm all too familiar with rust as well. Recreating mother nature has its own challenges, for sure. Perfect paint is something that often run into issues with, I set my personal expectations way too high, and nit pick everything. Edited May 15 by johnyrotten 1
