Greasefinger Posted Wednesday at 05:43 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:43 PM (edited) Model year 1955 was the first of the three years of second generation Chevy Bel Airs, which are commonly referred to as The Tri Fives among with Chevy 150, 210 and Nomad models from 1955-1957. I wanted to build the model to look as 50´s as possible so went for original factory colour scheme with regal turquoise and ivory (which looks almost white in photos) Shown in pictures also Bel Air -56 and -57. Kit Basher Posted Wednesday at 07:03 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:03 PM Nicely done. The trio looks great as well.
espo Posted Wednesday at 07:29 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:29 PM Great looking 1955 paint colors and finish. Clean chrome trim and emblems. Realistic looking interior colors.

'70 Grande Posted Friday at 01:53 AM Posted Friday at 01:53 AM (edited) Good looking build... you nailed the '50s look! I'm curious about the chrome bumpers on this build... they appear to have a slightly dull finish to them. Is that the kit's chrome straight from the chrome tree or did you finish it in some way to achieve the look? Edited Friday at 01:55 AM by '70 Grande

I have tried different water based clear coats (for example Alclad Aqua Gloss, Vallejo Polyurethan Gloss Varnish and DeLuxe Looks Like Glass) to protect the clear from handling, unfortunately the clear coat (and handling) has dulled the chrome more than expected. I will most probably re-chrome the bumpers some day because shiny chrome is of course essential in the 50´s cars. Edited Friday at 10:44 AM by Greasefinger
ncbuckeye67 Posted Friday at 10:12 AM Posted Friday at 10:12 AM A beautifully done 55, in the perfect color scheme!
Belugawrx Posted Friday at 10:14 AM Posted Friday at 10:14 AM Really nice paint and bmf work on all 3 Kari !! I have found that there is nothing you can put over Alclad and keep it chromey looking, but scale wise the bumpers look fine to me. Well done
70 Sting Posted Friday at 11:14 AM Posted Friday at 11:14 AM Excellent work on the paint, chrome trim and scripts!!
Geno Posted Friday at 01:37 PM Posted Friday at 01:37 PM Perfect colors for this build. You knocked it out of the park. I have a '56 in this color combo. I absolutely love it. 💯 2

Anyway, nice paint-job! 🙂 Edited Friday at 08:03 PM by Greasefinger
NOBLNG Posted Friday at 09:14 PM Posted Friday at 09:14 PM Beautifully done Kari! I really like the colour combo!👍😎
Mark W Posted Friday at 10:16 PM Posted Friday at 10:16 PM Beautiful execution Kari. I agree with your color choices. Very crisp details.
DJMar Posted Friday at 10:28 PM Posted Friday at 10:28 PM Great color combo on the '55! Sweet build of that "oldie but goodie". Is the maroon '56 in your last pic the old Monogram kit?

It is a diecast, it is a 1/24 Hachette model.😊 1
STU111 Posted Saturday at 04:43 AM Posted Saturday at 04:43 AM (edited) If the intent was to capture the 50’s look, then I say you nailed it! Beautiful looking 55. 👍🏻 Edited Saturday at 04:44 AM by STU111 Typo

Here is a good source for the tri-five colours: https://news.classicindustries.com/1955-1956-1957-chevy-colors-paint-codes The -56 is actually Revell´s kit from 2019 (Revell 07663). It´s not an old kit but already hard to find. It might well be the same as Monogram´s kit. Edited Saturday at 09:57 AM by Greasefinger

It´s not an old kit but already hard to find. It might well be the same as Monogram´s kit. The Revell (new tool) '56 is the sedan, which later begat the Nomad. The Monogram '56 is from the era when they were still feeling their way along in the 'adult builder replica' market, and is chunky by comparison. Fun fact - that 'clunky' '56 is a common basic builder kit, and can be a good source for a chassis swap if your 'olde skool' PC 83 Bel Air Convertible needs replacing. 1
