Gluebomber Posted May 20 Posted May 20 (edited) Below are some pics of the Airfix 1/32 1933 Alfa Romeo. The kit was originally issued in 1969 and while some areas show their age, overall the molding and fit are not bad and the build was enjoyable. As is the case with most of these vintage 1/32 kits, the big letdown is in the wheels, which would be beyond my skills to make realistic. The solution for this model was to use the 3D printed wheels and tires produced by The Model Bunker. They’re a bit larger than the kit parts but other than having to slightly enlarge the spare tire opening, they fit well. Other small mods included a scratch built tonneau cover over the rear seat (sheet plastic covered with tissue paper), dashboard instruments (gauge decals with p/e bezels), and new headlights from Czech Truck Model. The latter are a little too modern for this vintage car but I went with them because of the big improvement over the kit parts. Paint is Tamiya Spray TS-8 Italian Red decanted, mixed with Gunze Leveling Thinner, and airbrushed over a couple of coats of Alclad White Primer, also thinned with GLT. The decals are from Le Mans Decals and are meant for the 1933 Le Mans winning Alfa, which this model does not represent, but I used them because they looked right for a car of this era. I hope you like the pictures. All comments and constructive criticism are welcome. Thanks for looking! Edited May 20 by Gluebomber 7
Bugatti Fan Posted May 20 Posted May 20 A really superb build. Those wheels make all the difference. Just shows what can be done with those quite elderly kits. Airfix made a little Bugatti 35B to compliment the Alfa that was also a nice kit from that time.
1959scudetto Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Very nice looking Alfa, Larry ! I remember this one building as a 11 year old around 1970 - a brush-painted glue-bomb (was in clear plastic bag back then - no box). You show what can be done with a bit of TLC with these old kits.
Funkychiken Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Looks fantastic, especially for the scale. Those mods make the model much better. That paint finish looks amazing, im assuming it isnt clear coated? Looks much better than from the aerosol can.
Hoffman Posted Monday at 02:56 AM Posted Monday at 02:56 AM Larry, the thing about a really nicely done model with good photographs, is that it becomes difficult to tell what scale it is. Your Alfa Romeo fits that description on both counts. Looks great!! 😃
Gluebomber Posted Tuesday at 01:20 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 01:20 PM Thanks again for the kind comments. Atin, I didn't use any clearcoat on this one.
