My best interpretation of what I feel was either a promo / clinic use show car that eventually became a SS/E

440 4spd car.

It's the only one I'm aware of that had white bucket seat interior out of at least 3 known of the body style.

Theres not a whole lot of info or photos  of this particular car . So some liberties had to be taken.

That said.

I really REALLY like this one. A lot.

All Tamiya colors with Dupli color 1k clear . And Dupli color rattle can pearl white for the interior.

Im typically an out of the box builder. But this one got Lots of aftermarket details goodies...

AMT parts pack blue streak rear tires, front redlines from the MPC 1968 Coronet

The RB engine from the Revell Dart with headers modified from the hemi to fit

Dana rear axle from the 68 Charger kit

Pre wired dist and wire looms from Morgan Automotive detail

An amazing 3d printed AFB from Joseph at Fireball Model works

Unfortunately, this was an older Revell versions,, And the decals silvered when I laid clear over them.

But it it what it is and I'll live with it

And yes, the headers are not connected to the stock exhaust is intentional. The SS cars back then were required to have the stock system in place

Also, in just about every picture I can find of this car. There is no hood mldg, Thus. None on the kit build either.

Thanks for looking. And as usual. Comments / Critiques more than welcome.

It looks great I can’t hardly wait to see you build the hauler to go with it. I’ve gotta say I’m slightly jealous of that hot and dry perfect painting weather you have out there. It’s really neat to see a wedge Sox & Martin car as most were hemis

Very nice Bill. I was thinking of building this kit as a RO23, but just might build it as the GTX version, as I read they ran both cars. Paint on yours looks fantastic. Engine and chassis detail also.

I'm my digging into it.

They ran 3 cars

This 440 4spd car.

An actual RO hemi 4spd

These 2 was generally hired drivers

Ronnie may have driven either or both from time to time

And a 3rd Belvedere . Not an ro car. But it was hemi amd 4spd.

That is the car Ronnie himself was the regular  Driver

I ran into the guy who drove the Sox & Martin transporter in the late 60's. He said the white interior car was a clinic car like you mentioned. It would travel to dealerships and local celebrities would drive it. They started this in 1967. In 1968, they had a Roadrunner doing the same duty when someone had a bad wreck with it and Chrysler stopped doing it. The cars Ronnie drove where actually Belvederes badged as GTXs. The Belvedere was lighter, but Plymouth would rather sell you the more expensive GTX. That's why there was no rocker trim on them. They would also swap different types of engines in the second car to run different classes. I don't know if they sold any cars during the season and replaced them. This happened more during the Cuda years. Hope this helps clear things up some.

Thanks. ...Pretty much confirms my thoughts

Seems to be " most " of the photos of a white interior car.

It's not lettered with a class designation of any kind. And posed as if strictly for photo opp moments

To add even more confusion to the mix. I have a few pictures of a white interior car. WITH SS/E class designation.  And in each one it has the upper body line mldg like a Belv 2 has . Yet most do not have said mldg.

Which adds fuel to the thought / makes me believe they did in fact swap powertrains in a single body to change classes

As to when each photo was taken obviously have no idea to make some kind of time line for the car

The last photo you show is early 1967. It has Dougs Headers on it. He switched (at least stickers) to Hooker Headers.

Thanks

Ive gathered dozens of photos of any - every Sox-Martin 67 GTX I could.

In MOST , of them the ones with class SS/E designation markings AND various sponsor decals ( both Dougs or Hooker headers ) the car has the upper body line mldg , aka 67 Belv 2.

Its the car that has virtually no decals and no class designations , IMO was the Photo op / Clinic car

My gut tells me is most likely became one of the active cars in some point ? Or,,,Maybe it didnt.

Its my understanding  by the 1967 season they were full on salaried Chrysler paid employees, so it makes sense a photo op car existed to promote the brand.

Thanks for the info and comments to all

This one is one of my favorites

BILL,

You did a GREAT JOB of replicating one of my favorite old stockers, Hemi was "bad-fast", but the old wedges were nothing to ignore.........  Again, great job!!!

The Dodge D700 cab was a cast resin find on ebay .I used and modified the MPC 78 Dodge p/u for the interior. The chassis and body was AMT's Ford race car hauler and I stretched the frame.I used the 413 gas engine and 5 speed transmission from the Lindberg Dodge cabover kit . I used the air brake air compressor from the Ford Cat engine and adapted it to the 413 for the air brakes. The Roadrunner is the AMT kit ,I did that back in the 90's . I did the Paper Tiger using the Moebius kit and I did the Comet also-that was a 3 kit kitbash to do.  I did his 68 B023 years ago and gave it to a buddy of mine,,,I have to do another,,same with the 70 cuda,,I did the JoHan one,,gave that away too.... wish I still had them,,,the 68 car had a Ross Gibson resin Hemi in it ,build came out nice
