Mike 1017 Posted June 10 Posted June 10 I never knew that JO-HAN ever existed until I joined the Forum. I bought my models at a Drug Store because there was no Hobby Shop in my neighborhood. I just received the JO-HAN 1964 Cadillac Coupe De Ville from I trade I made with Carl Slusher. Now I understand why everyone raves about their kits. I think that I may just put it together with White Glue and not desecrated it with paint and CA-Glue. Thanks Carl, Take care Mike 5
JollySipper Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Carl is a good guy................. The '60s were some of the best looking cars for Cadillac. 1
Tyreman Posted June 11 Posted June 11 I am UK...i am interested in Johan...i own one the Rebel Machine and i will build 2
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 11 Posted June 11 I’ve loved Johan kits since I was a kid! Their attention to body detail and accuracy is second to none! Interiors and chassis detail were on par with the time, but those short comings can often be addressed with some modern kit kit bashing. They produced a lot of unusual and unique subject matter that will almost certainly never be reproduced in kit form. I appreciate what they did for the model car hobby, and I have many kits and finished models that I treasure immensely. Steve 6
Bucky Posted June 11 Posted June 11 I discovered Jo-Han kits in 1966, at the ripe old age of 11! Been hooked on them ever since! Love the flatbox kits. I have a few of them in the stash.
Brian Austin Posted June 11 Posted June 11 (edited) As good as thier bodies can be, they left out an important detail from their '61 Olds. The fender-top crease should continue through the doors creating a neat trough effect that JoHan seems to have missed. Easily enough fixed by the modeler. Edited June 11 by Brian Austin
Brian Austin Posted June 11 Posted June 11 One other issue is they often supplied wrong-year chassis in their kits. The '60s Olds kits carried over their '59-'60 chassis for example. Oddly enough some Olds promos had a more accurate chassis, though simplified.
Mark Posted June 11 Posted June 11 The promos often had updated chassis compared with the kits. The '69 and '70 GTX promos have correct underbody detail while the GTX and RR kits have a slightly changed '64 B-body piece. The Ambassador and Rebel kits all use a modified '66 Marlin underbody while the promos are more correct. Same goes for the AMC engines; all are based on the Marlin block, ironically that was the only kit for which the underbody and engine were 100% correct. AMC phased in a new V8 during '66, for '67 the earlier engine was gone. But to an extent, AMT and MPC tended to update chassis, interiors, and engines less often than the car bodies. Both were cranking out big-block Corvettes through 1977, and MPC's Barracuda and Challenger kits had Hemi engines right to the ('74) bitter end.
1972coronet Posted June 12 Posted June 12 My favourite has to be the '68 Fury I Police Car. Sure, it has a (generic-but-nice) Chrysler big block , backed by a manual transmission (yes, the 1:1 Fua ry could be had with a 383 Super Commando backed by a 4-speed, but it's doubtful that any police agency would order one - let alone a fleet -as such ) , but that's easily rectified . I had a few Jo-Han kits back in the 1970s (mainly the snap-together - "unassembled promo" - kits; the Olds Cutlass was my fave) and later, in the 1980s ( Cadillac Ambulance with sixties surf livery and such ; the aforementioned '68 Fury I ; and a couple of the S&M Barracuda P/S ). I enjoyed each one of them. 1

It looks great on any 383-440 big block. 2

Amazing i did not know that...i already have more kits than i could build! so pointless me buying more unless ultra focused like Johan i want.... a Hurst 300 would be an amazing kit.

Daddyfink Posted June 12 Posted June 12 (edited) I think I was around 7 when JoHan came into my life. One of my aunts gave me a Javelin kit for my birthday! Luckily I have a mint one in the stash to do a better job with than I did at 7! Image from the net Edited June 12 by Daddyfink
