Grand Canyon - North Rim Lodge "controlled burn" down

The second time the North Rim Lodge burnt down.  But last time there wasn't modern Codes, so I don't think it will ever be rebuilt.
This really ticks me off: [...] initially managed as a controlled burn after being sparked by lightning on July 4, rapidly spread due to high winds and dry conditions.  [...]
Who keeps telling us there is a drought?  Who runs the weather forecast system?  My dad retired from the NPS just when they changed their policy, if natural caused let it burn.  But come on, no excuse for this.

I'm really depressed since I lived on the South Rim as a kid.  Dad was a Seasonal at the North Rim, mom was working for Fred Harvey, the rest is history.  Now this iconic Park Service lodge (and gas station and other buildings) looks like California.  He took this slide picture.  I stayed in a log cabin several years ago, took a Mule ride, sure glad I did, you never know.

This saddens me. Staying there was on my bucket list for once I got to AZ.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful classic kind of lodge they just don't build anymore.

I visited the Lodge back in September of 2017.  What a beautiful spot to see and now what a tremendous loss.

I visited the south rim and shops enjoyed Williams AZ, love Arizona ad the majestic beauty of the state..

This bums us out big-time. Our plans were to attend the Grand Canyon Star party with my daughter and grandson on the north rim next year. Probably not happening now, but we'll just have to see. We might fall back to the south rim.

IIRC, the Bright Angel Lodge on the South Rim is quite similar in architecture to the one that just burned, but always seemed to me to be significantly more crowded.

Sad...went there about 15 years ago.  Only been to the North Rim a couple of times,  I've stayed at El Tovar at the South Rim a couple of times, probably been to the Grand Canyon South Rim a dozen times going back to 1981 when I first visited AZ as a kid (my older sister moved to Phoenix in '80 after getting married after college, I didn't move to Phoenix until 2008 but visited often in the 90s-00s...

Here is another picture dad took, that is also the North Rim but to the west, Toroweap Point.  I want to camp there, did when I first got married.

You are right. I stayed at both, and they were quite similar, at least from the outside. We stayed in little "pavillons" at the southern one. Memories...
