customline Posted August 15 Author Posted August 15 ....AND ITS A GOOD THING THAT I DID . While my nice red roadster body is in rehab (for a little paint issue), I figured I would go ahead and use the new body. So now I get to make the same mods again with a slight improvement for the bottom corners of the rear fenders but that's not final. Gotta see it in primer before I keep it that way. Comments and sympathy is always welcome 💩. 1/16" rod curled and shaped with my talented fingers. While holding the rod in position I hit it with solvent cement. CA is added later to the inside for reinforcement. Then I bent the corners. I had to "over-bend" the rod to reduce the spring power and hold it there while gluing and kicking it. Time for some primer. Interchangeable parts was a pretty good idea, huh? Wasn't that Henry Ford?....nope.... 7
customline Posted Tuesday at 09:48 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 09:48 PM I painted the other body on Sunday (the original is still languishing in the purple lagoon) and I think the project is cursed. It will need color sanding to smooth out what looks like an impact boo boo. I must have bumped it while moving it around shortly after it was sprayed. 💩 In addition, the seams where the fenders mate with the body wouldn't take paint. An airbrush would have been better for that but, since I will be color sanding, I sprayed some paint into the cap and grabbed a fine liner and proceeded to remedy the situation. Better but I will continue the process. Here's the mock-up 👇🤓 Thanks for sticking around 🥴 10
Paul Payne Posted Wednesday at 08:18 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:18 PM Nothing better than a red 32 roadster!

The only reason I didn't buy more on my last trip to Ollie's was because she-who-must-be-obeyed was with me. 😪. They had dozens. It was a very difficult situation. 1

TopherMcGinnis Posted Friday at 04:28 PM Posted Friday at 04:28 PM Dang. I'd like to add one of those to the stash. That's a real good deal.

You've gotta check Ollie's weekly now that we're heading into the Christmas buying season. You never know what you'll find.
customline Posted 5 hours ago Author Posted 5 hours ago I got it painted yesterday, stuck it in the dehydrator for two hours, rubbed it out and polished with Scratch-X. There are some anomalies in the form of tiny bubbles that appear along character lines. It's disappointing but they are not easily observed if you don't know about them so don't tell anybody! The bigger problem is a color discrepancy between the previously painted parts and the twice painted body. I'm not too keen on removing the grille shell and fenders in order to add more paint but that is what's called for. It's that or a really difficult masking job. It's a good thing I got a haircut last week. 😩 Thanks for dropping in 🤓 3
TopherMcGinnis Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Have you looked at the "different" paints in the sun? Sometimes our minds play trix on us.

Just normal paint difficulties caused by my own ineptitude. The body has twice as much paint on it than the other items that were previously painted without issues. I wet-sanded the body because of the goof I made while the paint was still soft. The paint was from a second can but I don't suspect that was the cause. The fix is to add more paint on the stuff that's already glued on. ☹
