dragstk Posted Thursday at 09:00 PM Posted Thursday at 09:00 PM (edited) After working on the chassis and engine for this kit, I decided to do some test fitting on the body. And this is what I got. The hood fits the body and the grill fits the fenders. But the 2 dont come close to each other In the 40+ years of model building, Ive never seen such a worst parts fit. I realize this kit is 20 years old but something is wrong here. Anyone else have this issue? Am I missing something? Any help or idea are appreciated Edited Thursday at 09:00 PM by dragstk
espo Posted Thursday at 09:15 PM Posted Thursday at 09:15 PM Maybe check the body fit to the fenders. I think the bottom edge of the body should meet the running boards. In the photo it looks as if there is a small gap between the body and the rear fenders about the same distance as the body and fender part. 2
sidcharles Posted Thursday at 09:15 PM Posted Thursday at 09:15 PM well there's your problem; saw it right off. the grille is too short. 1
stitchdup Posted Thursday at 09:16 PM Posted Thursday at 09:16 PM There is a 3 piece version in one of the coupe or van kits. I've got one molded in slime green but i dont know if its a better fit
dragstk Posted Thursday at 10:28 PM Author Posted Thursday at 10:28 PM @David-Yes, there is a small gap between the body and the running boards. I originally agreed with you. But the body fits the fenders right everywhere else. And the hood fits correctly (?) at the back of the hood where it sits on the firewall. But I might have to go that route and lower the body more. @sidcharles-Yes, the grill is to short, I had high hopes that it would grow up to be taller, but alas, not yet @Les-I thought it was kinda weird that the hood came in a separate bag, not on a sprue. Maybe I got the wrong hood Thanks to all of you for your replies! 1
Chuckyg1 Posted Friday at 01:39 AM Posted Friday at 01:39 AM The grill isn't placed on the fender unit correctly. It needs to be moved up and back to sit on the upper edge of the fenders. I have three of these kits and after checking, they all fit fine.

Not a problem in the bunch.
Fat Brian Posted Friday at 03:53 AM Posted Friday at 03:53 AM Your body does need to sit a little lower on the fenders, it should rest on the notch on the front of the rear fenders. I also had to sand the front of the body to fit between the front fenders fully. What I ended up doing was cutting the floor pan out so I could attach the fenders to the body and still get the interior in. Once I had the body in the fenders correctly I had to bend the sides of the hood out so it would go over the cowl fully then trim the back edges of the hood until it laid on the fenders right. 4
NOBLNG Posted Friday at 01:12 PM Posted Friday at 01:12 PM (edited) This is not the same kit and the hood is obviously a different molding, but it fit together ok if I recall. There is a small gap between the body and running boards. I agree that your grill is not properly placed, and the front of the hood should likely be lowered till the sides meet the fenders. dragstk Posted Friday at 09:26 PM Author Posted Friday at 09:26 PM Thank you all for your help with this. I completely missed the grill in the wrong place. But last night I did work on lower/eliminating the gap between the body and fenders. It definitely looks better This is why I ask questions here. Thanks again 2
bill-e-boy Posted Friday at 10:32 PM Posted Friday at 10:32 PM And as to the hood differences - I seem to remember the coupe hood has no sides while the SD has. They can be swapped around which is a bonus

Q: which kit is this? looks like it could be good fodder for a dirt tracker. thanks
