papajohn97 Posted October 11 Posted October 11 This one was the most challenging, the gutted supercharged NHRA rule-breaking match racer that Gary Dyer briefly held the 1/4 mile record for door slammers in Oct '65 at Lions. I had to scratch-build a straight axle for the front end, probably not accurate but good enough, grafted a resin AT to block and the blower, manifold and bug catcher/ injector are resin parts from Speed City. I also scratch-built the headers and fuel pump and had to do major surgery (after painting and decaling, I hate it when that happens) to get the aluminum nitro fuel tank to fit in front of engine bay. Paints used were ScaleFinishes HOC PBC36 TruBlue base lacquer over Tamiya Pearl Light Blue lacquer. Decals were from Fremont Racing Specialties. Really pleased with how this one came out, it's my favorite of the five. Thanks for looking! Cheers, John 18
BK9300 Posted October 11 Posted October 11 (edited) Exceptional workmanship - I know zip about AWB cars, but sure can appreciate your attention to detail and finish. Terrific builds, all of them! Edited October 11 by BK9300 1
gtx6970 Posted October 11 Posted October 11 Nice detail about leaving the rear glass out. This car never ran with rear glass under Norms ownership 1
slusher Posted October 12 Posted October 12 (edited) Beautiful clean build! Impressive! Edited October 12 by slusher Typo 1
Brutalform Posted October 12 Posted October 12 By far, one of the coolest builds I’ve ever seen of these AWB cars. The rear window delete, and the holes drilled in the package tray, all very tastefully done. Very nice! 1
M W Elky Posted October 13 Posted October 13 John this one’s my favorite and you did a fantastic job the paint colors look right , the right blower parts , the headers came out great . I completely agree the fit is definitely better on the Plymouth is slightly better . 1
Mike 1017 Posted October 13 Posted October 13 GREAT Build of a Historic NHRA Legend. I grew up in the Grand and Spaulding neighborhood. I LUV everything Mr.Norm 1
Rattlecan Dan Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Beautifully done. Lots of realism, and cleanly detailed. 1

Maurice Henderson Posted Tuesday at 10:04 AM Posted Tuesday at 10:04 AM Papajohn, 1st let me say I'm not a big fan of these AWB cars, but YOU KILLED IT ON THIS ONE..It has the best paint, fit & finish that I've seen on this forum for AWB cars..Bro, I love the color & al the detail you put into this build..Job well done my friend..Btw, I'm from Chicago where Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge was started. 1
Maurice Henderson Posted Tuesday at 10:12 AM Posted Tuesday at 10:12 AM Mr. Norm's shop was on 3300 Grand Ave in Chicago..I'm 65 years young and can remember as a 10 year old kid going down there with my older brother who was into Hot Rodding to see what was coming out and in of his dealership..He was the man in Chicago when it came to hi-performance parts for Mopars. 1
