Sledsel Posted October 15 Posted October 15 (edited) I decided to get a new project going. Don't know why because I got a ton going anyway. Well I had read about warpage on this Camaro kit so I pulled everything out to check and all was good. Then I started looking at the body. On the passenger side the mold sprue was cut off from the molding process and unfortunately cut too short. I have checked and measured and I need to add about a 1/16th of an inch to the front of the quarter panel / rocker. Very frustrating because I was hoping not to be fixing things like this. I really don't think it's worth asking for a new body. Has anybody else run into this? Pictures show the different shapes of the wheel openings. Edited October 15 by Sledsel
Old Buckaroo Posted October 15 Posted October 15 (edited) Yes, these body's have some defects - wait till you look at the passenger fender rear. Easy fix though by gluing in some styrene and reshaping it. As we use to say in the body shops "You cant look at both sides at the same time" ! Edited October 15 by Old Buckaroo 3

I may go rocker molding delete on this as I did with the '72 Nova. Thanks for the heads up. seeing this after paint would have made me crazy!!! Edited October 15 by Sledsel
peteski Posted October 16 Posted October 16 These newly released kits are molded in orange plastic?! Yuck! 2
NOBLNG Posted October 16 Posted October 16 I never even noticed the different fender shapes when building mine. But now that you mention it…😳. I did glue the front and rear valences to the body which made it impossible to fish the chassis/floorpan in and out, so I disconnected the engine/subframe and installed it separately. It worked very nicely. I did have issues getting the floorpan to meet up with the firewall too, so test fit everything. 1
Beans Posted October 16 Posted October 16 I had such a warped body that I didn't really notice the fender issue. I ended up getting drastic with the whole thing. Problem solved..... 1
johnyrotten Posted October 16 Posted October 16 I have two of this kit,one has absolutely the most flash I've ever seen. Probably molded five o'clock on a friday.

Probably molded five o'clock on a friday. The earlier kits such as the Baldwin Camaro have excellent bodies as well as the molded in gray 70.5's . Its the recycled highway cone orange chi'na plastic kits that are the worse. But when you can buy them from Hobby Lobby on sale for $13.00 they are worth the inconvenience to fix , especially if your building older quarter mile cars. Edited October 16 by Old Buckaroo 1 1

My bad kit was second hand, with a bunch of paints ect and a receipt from the mid 2000's. The "replacement" is a hobby lobby buy, noticeably better but not perfect. Both orange. I'll post the mess when I get out of work. Edited October 16 by johnyrotten More information
Sledsel Posted October 16 Author Posted October 16 The orange plastic does not bug me, the minor fixes don't bother me to much. When done it will look correct unlike other newer kits that are just wrong and need a butt-load of corrections Glad for all the input on this from all you.
