Exotics_Builder Posted Monday at 11:56 PM Posted Monday at 11:56 PM I won the model at a raffle a while back and it has been sitting on the shelf. I decided to do this as I was recuperating from my cataract surgery. There was a several week period of very reduced strain on the eyes. The way I build meant no detail models. So, I elected to do this as an Out of the Box. I will not tell you how difficult it is for me to do Out of the Box (something I have not done in decades). This is especially true when you get to the engine/engine and chassis areas. This issue of the Revell kit has a lot of decals that will help detailing. So, a good choice for a detail fanatic such as me. The biggest problems I had with the kit is not being able to detail the engine, chassis and interior. Especially galling to me were the decal seatbelts. As the instructions required setting them as decals, I didn’t even have the option to cut them out, color the edges and glue them to the seats. The biggest body problem was not being able to correct the front flares of the wheel wells. The kit body is flared out whereas the actual car has these as an add on. So I assembled per the instructions, detail painted and decaled (with kit supplied decals) as best I could. The engine was painted using some Testors Pontiac Engine Blue that I thinned and shot through my airbrush. I have enough of that paint left for perhaps one to two more engines of the 66-69 era. Interior painted with Tamiya Matte and Semi-Gloss Black. I elected to do the body in Lucerne Blue (rather than the more common white) that I got from Scale Finishes. Clear coating was done with Mr. Hobby Super Clear UV Cut Gloss and then polished out. 18

espo Posted Tuesday at 07:30 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:30 PM Congratulations from a fellow Cataract Surgery recipient. Great paint finish and like the Lucerne Blue color. 1
XYHARRY Posted yesterday at 07:37 AM Posted yesterday at 07:37 AM Very nice oob T/A. Well done Gerry. 1
Dragline Posted yesterday at 11:43 AM Posted yesterday at 11:43 AM OOB can be fun even for us detail freaks. It always depends on the kit for me. A Tamiya bike is always going to be great OOB, while an old MPC kit is going to be a challenge. Your Bird rocks! 1
Andrew McD Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago OOB can be beautiful too, you just proved it. Very nicely done and best wishes recovering from the cataract surgery.
iamsuperdan Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I think it turned out really well. It would be an interesting comparison to see you build another, but in your usual style. Adding the extra details and whatnot.
