hey harry, wuz up? first i would like to say thank you for rom every week! and second i will say go with the black panel!

or how about the saleen s281 rear panel?

or how about the parnelli jones limited edition mustang rear panle?

just some ideas!

OH YEAH :) - The limited edition Parnelli Jones addition for me is the ticket. The chrome surround piece, and the black formed panel balance out the chrome grills in the front, give the rear more character and RACY ELEGANCE, and keep the front from looking too heavy.

To me, just paint would CHEAPIN the look of the entire car. Way too nice of a car to "Hit with a RATTLE-CAN".

On Dec 16th, 1966, I took delivery of a brand new 1967 Fastback 390 Hi-Pro, Bullit green Mustang.

It came loaded and had the RARE rear full width cast finned panel, that gave the car a one of a kind look.

Classy little details can really make a car stand out.

I'd say go with the black too......but before you start spraying Krylon all over it, keep in mind that spray cans are nowhere near as durable as real automotive paints. It'll probably start wearing off after a few washes.

Harry,

Go with the black panel..... It is unlike you to do anything except the correct way from what I've seen thus far. No spray cans , take your new toy to a reputable shop and get it done right !

Remember, Harry , cheap always comes back to bite you where it always hurts the most ! :D

Hi Harry!

To just answer your question, I would suggest adding the black panel with a custom made vinyl application from your local striping shop. It should not be very expensive, and this will ensure that it fits properly. Also, if you decide that you don't like its appearance, later, you can always have it removed, whereas with paint it is permanent.

All the Best!

Quick update:

Thanks to all for adding your opinions. I decided to go with a satin black panel. I used Rustoleum "Maximum Durability" semigloss black auto paint. It has UV protection and is supposedly "weather resistant," so the black should stay black for a long time. And even if it fades a bit way on down the road, I still have about 90% of the contents left in the can!

It turned out real nice... I'll try to get a photo and post a pic of the results...

Harry,

I like the black also. A little too shiny though. If you want to tone down the shine, use black bumper paint. I redid my front and rear bumper pads and grill on my last truck and it turned out with a very smooth finish and flat. The best part is that over the four years between painting them and trading the truck, the Florida sun along with who knows how many washes did not have a single effect on it.

I think it needs a few wings and some 30" wheels with spinners. Model cars mag. admins gotta represent.

Well... I already added the louvers on the rear quarter windows... I got rid of the "big rig" looking OEM side view mirrors and replaced them with Agent 47 sport mirrors... I installed a sequential stoplight/turn signal wiring harness... got the billet front grille to replace the factory molded plastic unit... got rid of the ugly factory shift knob and replaced it with a "classic" white knob type with the shift pattern engraved on it... so I think I'm good to go! :D

All you need Harry is that magic little chip that boosts your gas mileage by 10 miles and adds 50 hp! :D For only a few easy payments of "more that it's worth"!
