WOW, Gossip really brings everybody out of their hiding places! :D;) I really am not sure who has the better magazine or forum but when you look at the whole picture, seems to me that SA has more members in their forum and more magazines sold, sorry but it's the truth. I still prefer it here but like I said, I look at the big picture!

Jim replied this morning with a clarification and apology to anyone he may have mislead or offended with his editorial or replies; it wasn't locked or deleted or swept under any rug as many accused him of. I was surprised by all the uproar it caused, it seemed pretty clear to me the intention of the editorial, and it clearly was a good editorial because of the subject and discussions that took place...it provoked (mostly) healthy discussion over the use of magnifiers for building vs. judging. It also provoked less healthy discussion due to (I would hope) misunderstanding of the editorial...and wouldn't you know, when reading that thread today again I saw that the person with the biggest issue said right up front that he didn't read the editorial...

Well then, okay... :D

I saw that, and two things came to mind immediately:

1. Jim apologized???!!! I can say without a doubt that that's the first time I've ever seen that... and I've been a member there since 2003.

2. I don't think he needed to apologize to anyone. Nothing he said warrants an apology.

When someone breaks out a magnifying glass, in my humble opinion, it's only saying how good of a modeler you are, think about that for a moment. They are looking for flaws, hence the reason for the magnifying glass!!! :D No??? Bring it on!!!!:lol:

This is not an issue for me. I make sure that all of the flaws in my models can be detected without the aid of assistive technology of any kind!

I have not read the second or the third page of this thread, i did however read most of the first(well one or two posts, give me a break I'm a teen from Texas  )

I have no clue who this Jh guy is, or what the "other forum" is, but he sounds like a bid oh you know what! I use a magnifying glass on my own models, especially when shaving door handles and trim! It was said that the judge was an older person, he was griping about a old guy using a magnifying glass?!?! what is he 12? seriously from the sound of it that guy has some major growing up to do. I also have no intentions what so ever of joining any "other" scale car forum, because to me this is the only one, and it is the best one! i visit here more often then i visit my car forums anymore!!

I just checked out "the other forum" I'm sorry to anybody who really likes that forum, but to me that place blows!! it was very dull, odd to navigate, and they dont even have an off topic area! how am i supposed to be off topic 24/7? Again sorry to anyone who really likes that site, and for the mild language....Just the view of one 18 year old form Texas :D

I have a simple comment to add to this. It doesn't matter as long as all the models are judged on a equal basis! ...and what is the differance between and Optivisor and a pair of high powered reading glasses? Frankly, as I approach 60, without some form of assistance, I wouldn't be reading, working on the computer or building models. 2X in my Optivisor is the same as 2X in my reading glasses. I use both.

Just make sure that everyone gets the same treatment.

If you believe in what you type then you are right within yourself. Toe's get stepped on and people say stupid s@#t all the time. I think it is funny that 2 people can differ in opinions online to the point their dog will not come near them without piddling on the carpet, but could sit next to each other at the office and never have an issue.

For me I am ok with the judges using whatever means necessary to judge a show as long as all parties are put under the same scrutiny. As far as the "other magazine/site" debate. The bigger is better statement is quite comical. I am active on both, I subscribe to both and enjoy both. I prefer this site because I feel it has a more mature atmosphere.
