baddgass Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 All man this is outstanding work men ship. I love it!
1320wayne Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 WOW!!!! Really an Excellent job.. Soo much to look at. Great water Feature. Shop is Fantastic. Great detail Everywhere. The Entry into the shop looks like a Big bump tho. The garage is not done yet. It was just set in place for these pictures. When it's complete there will be a concrete looking slope for the appraoch to the garage as well as the step through the door.
Lyn Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Here is a bit more to the garage. The building has been stained, although most of it will covered with siding. The interior walls are done and in place. The floor is done. And, I went ahead and started to layout where I might want to permanently attach interior pieces. Nothing is permanent yet. Don't mind the diecast Town and Country wagon inside. It's only there to see what kind of spacing I have. I was also able to add more shingles to the first side of the roof. what did you use for the floor?
Lyn Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 very nice! evidently you have imagination and know how to make it a reality
1320wayne Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 what did you use for the floor? The floor was a larger 11x17 plastic sheet from a dollhouse miniatures store that I picked up many years back that I still had stored away just waiting for a time to be used.
1320wayne Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 Did you use the rear of a Magnum for the bench seats in the office, nice touch. The scratchbuilt couch was made from the trunk section of an AMT Chrylser 300 with parts box seats, styrene and filler.
1320wayne Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 Awesome job Bro!!!!!!!!! I love every detail !!!!!!!!! One question though, how did you get such outstandingly realistic ripple effects in the pond?????????? I started by doing an online search of any images of birds in the water and what the ripple marks should look like as well as birds just taking off from the water. I used Testors window maker white glue, which dries clear, to make the ripples behind the floating birds and then added a larger amount of the glue underneath the birds taking off and while the glue was setting up I used a toothpick to chop it up to the point that it looked like the image in front of me. It's not perfect but I was happy for a first try.
1320wayne Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 Here's more on the building. The siding is now painted and in place. There is still all of the trim work to be added shortly along the top and corners to bring everything together. The front door is stained and in place with the added door knobs and skeleton key on the inside.
1320wayne Posted September 9, 2009 Author Posted September 9, 2009 Next there will be a 69 Dart parked on the side of the garage covered by a blue tarp. I made the tarp by cutting a piece of paper towel to the correct size and then dipping it into a mixture of 3 parts water to 1 part white glue (mixed) and then laying it out onto the body and letting it create it's shape as it dries. You can even manipulate the shapes and contours as the towel is drying. After it was fully dried I sprayed the towel with Testors Grabber Blue to get that "blue tarp" look. I still need to add just a bit of weathering to the tarp to help highlight the folds and show some wear.
kyledr330 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 That is just outstanding work Wayne. And to top it off, you made it a Mopar garage!
Eshaver Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 AHHHHHHH , you sir are a worthy contender ....................... Ed Shaver
charlie8575 Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Simply remarkable! This is one of the finest dioramas I've ever seen in any scale on any subject. Your garage is enviable, and I know plenty of model railroaders (like me,) who would love to make water like that. Charlie Larkin
1320wayne Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 Well, the building is complete. I might find a few more small items to add to the inside but for the most part it's done. Now I can permanently mount it to the base and move on from there. All of the shingles are in place as well as the glass for the skylights and the front and back glass. I also finished the bookshelf with lots of record albums and magazines loaded onto it. Now I can concentrate on getting the vehicles and the rest of the people completed.
Jantrix Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Wow. How the hell did I miss this thread. This is some seriously fantastic work Wayne. Are you planning on bringing this to Jaxcon? I'd love to see it in person.

I'm hoping to be totally finished with it in time to take it to Atlanta in November.
Nick Winter Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Thanks Rob. Yes I will definately have it with me in Jacksonville. I'm hoping to be totally finished with it in time to take it to Atlanta in November. This is so freakin' Beautiful, I love it. I'm a Mopar guy too. Hey one question when you did the tarp didn't it stick to your dart?

Nick Winter Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 You wrap the body in plastic wrap before laying the material over the body to form the shape. gotcha Wayne.
1320wayne Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 Well, the garage is mounted to the base finally. The 69 Dart under the tarp has been placed beside the garage. There is a canoe with paddles behind the garage and a little foliage has been added at the base of the garage walls to conceal any gaps between the building and the turf. I am currently playing with the ideas for vehicles for the scene. The cool part of dioramas is that you can change them out if you want a fresh look.
BigBlockLyle Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 This is awesome. I have a project similar to this planned for after I graduate so I can spend more time on it. BTW, any more pics of the Dodge pick-up?
Rider Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Wow even the window trim is bang on, must have been difficult to operate the mini mitre saw, lol. Nice job on all the manuals and mags. I like the Pro Stock Duster in garage.
crazyjim Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Unbelieveable details. Excellent looking dio. What's the talk about Jacksonville? Is there a model show coming up?
1320wayne Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) Unbelieveable details. Excellent looking dio. What's the talk about Jacksonville? Is there a model show coming up? There is an IPMS chapter that puts on a show every February called Jaxcon. It's usually the weekend of Valentine's Day. Check the IPMS website for details. www.ipmsusa.org Edited October 6, 2009 by 1320wayne
1320wayne Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 I finished some of the people and positioned them. The Dodge Dually will be the vehicle outside the garage. I built this one years ago and then rebuilt it about two years ago in hopes of one day adding it to a diorama. The 67 Coronet is merely mocked up in the garage at the moment. When it's complete this is where it will be placed with the engine hanging from the engine hoist, waiting to be installed. I also added a sign down by the water letting folks know what they could or could not do on the property.
