I've had issues in the past with the paint peeling off the plastic. Doesn't seem to stick once it's dry. Maybe it was some foreign matter on the plastic but that's why I quit using it. Maybe they changed their formula?

Wow- we have the next Billy Mays!

Seriously, though, I use Krylon almost exclusively as a primer, and have never had anything but good luck with it thus far.

Torinobradley- I once had the exact opposite problem with Krylon on a resin body- it scraped right off wet, but now that it's dry it's just fine! That's the only serious adhesion problem I ever had with Krylon, and I think it happened because I did not prep the body properly beforehand.

And the Krylon Fusion stuff that's formulated specifically for plastic? Really doesn't seem to work much better than the standard Krylon. The 'Rust Tough' flats are what I use for priming duties. I've had problems with the standard Krylon flats being too 'watery' at times, but the Rust Tough products seem better quality than the standard Krylon... and the standard stuff is pretty good to begin with! Try to avoid the gloss Rust Tough colors- they take forever to dry, nearly as long as Rustoleum.

So, long story short, hellonwheels, no- don't worry about it eating the plastic. You'll be fine!

Guys, I do not use Krylon, so I can't speak from personal experience, but there was a warning on the IPMS USA website about recent changes to Krylon's formula.

This is a very lengthy article written by IPMS USA member Richard Marmo, but it is VERY interesting and details the recent formula changes to mainly Krylon, but other paints as well, INCLUDING Model Master Metalizers. It is in the form of a PDF file, so you'll need to download it to read it.

Go here:

http://www.ipmsusa2.org/reviews2/misc/misc.htm

Click on "Features, How To, Etc", and choose "Beware changes to Krylon (and other) Spray Paint"

Its about a 850KB PDF file, so if anyone is on slow dialup and wants me to, I can TRY to copy and paste it here.

Like I said, I don't use Krylon so it hasn't affected me....yet. I was just reading about it so I'm just trying to save someone some grief.

Krylon like and brand of paint has a learning curve. You need to know how to spray it to get good finishes. For resin the primer is the best I have used. the best part isI have never neede to clear coat my finish.. just polish it ouot really good and it shines.

From what I know about paint , Lacqure has the hotter formula . The more agressive and more "bite" . Back in the Day , it took into the '70's to find a primer to make a barracade to prevent the Lacquer from crazing the plastic . This opened the doors to use Auto Touch Up on our projects . Oh ...Happy Days ! Thanx..

The only issue I ever had with Krylon, was the primer, went to sand it and it acted just like Testors primer, cloged the you know what out of my sand paper, I do alot of body stuff, I use primer alot, so I started to use Dupli-color primer and it works great for me, so now I use just dupli-color stuff....

Here's a D-Jag I built years ago using Krylon primer and topcoat. The primer IIRC, was their sandable black and the topcoat was their Hunter Green with black mixed in to get the hue I wanted.

NO clear coat whatsoever was used!..............Just simply rubbed out and polished. :)

LOL! thanx! have any on used krylon x-metals?

http://www.krylon.com/products/xmetals/

I actually used that just recently. The first two coats looked very pretty, I was extremely surprised. Then I applied the 3rd coat and the paint began to run. That was most likely a user error, but it was still a huge set back. The paint ended up plumb in the end. It looked good as far as that goes and looked bright red in direct sun light and purple without any, but if you're hoping for a metallicy red, this just didn't deliver for me.

I have used the duplicolor metal cast? system.

But it seemed like the paint was very soft.

Like it never dried fully? Maybe I did something wrong, though?

What wax did you use to polish the Jag? And what material cloth did you use?
