sfhess Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) Nowadays any thought of the DMV or the "written test" takes my thoughts here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asECeBfwTLA In California there is a separate test if you have a motorcycle endorsement on your license. One time when a friend took the motorcycle test there were two questons whose "correct" answers totally contradicted each other. Drivers who use the criteria of whether or not they have been involved in an accident or received a traffic ticket in X years to determine if they are "good" drivers are not necessarily "good" drivers. They are just lucky...... Edited August 21, 2009 by sfhess
Nick Winter Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) I don't even have a license and I got. Your Grade: B 83% You Passed with an Above Average Score Edit Forgot to add the score I got, Duh. Edited August 21, 2009 by Dukefan69'
Art Anderson Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 In Indiana: Pedestrians have the right of way only in marked crosswalks--this is a current hot-button issue here right now, around the University. It is quite possible here to have an intersection with no marked crosswalk, mostly on either highways, or thoroughfares on the outskirts of a city or town--several of those here in Lafayette. Art
Tom Jackson Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Around Here school zones are 15 and flipping off the trucker and speeding up is the awnser to that question
Abell82 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 I got a D- !!! So I would suggest, that you stay out of my way, and off the sidewalks. Just let me pass, and you'll be O.K. (Edit: No, not really. ) (Even if you let me pass, you may still not be O.k. ! )
shlajh02 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 D! School zones are 25 here. Who ever has to use hand signals? Im turning my High beams on because Im getting home! Ill flip ya off if your not a trucker
Joe Handley Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 No wonder these questions half didn't make any sense, they were written by an insurance company or the insurance industry.
Nick F40 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Chris, b-b-bird bird bird is the word! I failed 44%, although some have two or different answers, and just the other night my light's didn't work so I used my highbeams just take back roads!
old-hermit Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 flipping off the trucker and speeding up is the awnser to that question Next time you look in your rear view mirror and can't see anything but a big grill, try flipping him off then.
vizio93 Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 WOW!!! i got a 44%. that was even harder then when i took the real test. on the real one there was a question that said "If you were walking on the road at night what should you do? A. wear something white B. walk on the right side of the road C. walk on the left side of the road D. walk on the median First of all: i came to take a drivin' test, so i can drive. i already know how to walk. i'm not gonna walk if im allowed to drive. Second of all: i said walk on the right side of the road, because if you walk on the the left you gonna be blinded by the cars comin' attcha. and walkin' on the median is stupid. I GOT IT WRONG !!! It was wear something white . WHAT?!?!. So if my car stopped runnin' and i didn't have anythang white with me, i'm not allowed to get out and walk to the nearest house or gas station? that was one stupid question.
Rick Schmidt Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 got an 89. I think the Right of way thing needs to be retaught no tellin how many times I have been about blasted by someone in a huge SUV on their cell phone cause they think the little Mustang don't get to go ......... oh wait Maybe thats them to into their phone to realize there was even a sign... As for the hand signals and the above question about who uses em? I have actually used em lost all signal lights on a 71 Ford I had used hand signals for about a week. I missed the one bout the fire truck ... I really tend not to chase fire trucks ....and its not like they just ride around for S&G lol. And like everyone else why do I care how many wrecks are caused by drunks ...... Yea thats gonna help me avoid him when he's about to hit me.
envious8420 Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 in ohio the guy on the right has the right of way and here in illinois where we now reside its the left.(missed that one on my real test.) i got the fire truck one only because my neighbor is the fire chief and has his rig parked in front of my house all of the time. i also flipped the trucker the bird (thats just me). this test would be a bit more appropriate if we had national driving guidelines instead of a few clowns on every local city council "adjusting" the rules to suit their situation. btw i got a c+ on this one
LOBBS Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 How does knowing what percent of accidents involve alcohol have any bearing on your driving ability? It's probably the same logic that allows insurers to set your rates off your credit scores. I haven't had an ticket, accident or claim in 13 years but when we got caught off guard by the Boeing strike (I work for a supplier) we had to juggle some bills. Sure enough, when our insurance came up for renewal they bumped our rates due to a "recent change in our credit status".
Joe Handley Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 How does knowing what percent of accidents involve alcohol have any bearing on your driving ability? That's about as relevant as asking what percent of Chinese are left-handed. No kidding, all it tells me is that I have a 40% chance of getting hit by another drunk driver if I get in another wreck. WOW!!! i got a 44%. that was even harder then when i took the real test. on the real one there was a question that said "If you were walking on the road at night what should you do? IIRC here in Illinois you should wear bright/light colors cloths (white, yellow, prison jump suit orange, ect) and walk against the flow of traffic on the shoulder. Now if you're on bicycle, you should wear the same types of cloths, but you have to ride with the flow of traffic and stay over to teh right side of the road. Personally I like sidewalks, I grew up around here and took driver's ed here so I know better than to trust most of these licensed knuckeheads.

Well, that would explain the suden $9.00 jump in my insurance premium last month.
lizardlust Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 So if my car stopped runnin' and i didn't have anythang white with me, i'm not allowed to get out and walk to the nearest house or gas station? that was one stupid question. I suppose one COULD remove his or her pants and display their "tightey whiteys", or if they went commando that day, substitute their fleshtone for white. Althought that COULD lead to some legal difficulties from a "lewd and lascivious" standpoint.....

Althought that COULD lead to some legal difficulties from a "lewd and lascivious" standpoint..... . then you'd probably be arrested for public nudity(a law that the gov. made), because you were trying to do what the drivers ed test (remember the government came up with that too), told you to do. thats the gov. for ya .
tabsscale1 Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I'm a leftie too. As far as the Chinese go, I'd guess the leftie percentage is the same as it is everywhere... around 10%? In my house the percentage is 75% as I am the ony righthanded person!!!
Modelmartin Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 This reminds me of an interesting thing I read somewhere. If 4 cars all come to a 4-way stop intersection at the exact same time which driver continues on his way first? In Minnesota there would be a stand-off. No one would go! They would all be waving at each other for the others to go first! Minnesotans are notorious for being passive-agressive. At the same time as they are trying to get others to go first they are cursing them under their breath for being so much trouble! Stop signs here must be parked 30 feet from. The high beam question was goofy. The left/right thing at an intersection is useless because nobody knows it, people rarely arrive at the same time and the willingness to go first or last is never a match. I got 84 on this quiz. I got 97 on my class D real driver test and I got 92 for my class B. I hate it when people don't follow right of way rules. It can be quite unsafe whether they do it from agressiveness or "nice"ness. Once when I was driving in Salt Lake City I was stopped waiting to make a left hand turn into a parking lot, a driver in the opposite lane stopped to let me go in front of him. It was a four lane road! I was not about to kill myself in the the lane he wasn't stopped in. Needless to say I refused his hospitality. One of my favorite and quite common "offenses" to driving decency and intelligence is the person in front of you poking along well below the limit and then punching it at the last second to get through that yellow...no....red light leaving you stranded at the red when at your normal pace you would have easily cleared it .
Harry P. Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 How about this: You come to the intersection and pull into the left-turn lane. Your light is green... if there's no oncoming traffic you could go ahead and make your left turn. But NO! There's a big hulking SUV sitting across the intersection, facing you, in its left turn lane (seats 8, but of course the only person inside is the tiny 90 pound suburban woman). So now you can't see if anything's coming at you because the SUV-asaurus is totally blocking your line of sight. And if you pull left far enough to see if there's any oncoming traffic, you'll find out the hard way! So you sit there... afraid to make your left, because you might get hit head-on. Usually you wind up sitting there until Ms. Gigantor makes her turn and you can see again...
george 53 Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I've had Triple A insurance for about 40 years, an I've NEVER had an increase cause of my credit rateing! THAT'S PURE BULL SH8T!!! I'd find a REPUTABLE co. an cut those money grabbers loose!!! WTF has your CREDIT rateing got to do with your driveing??? As long as you pay your premiums on time an DON'T have any claims, whats credit got to do with ANYTHING!!!!! Who is your Hi-way robber Ins.Co. anyway? Just to let others AVOID them!!!

It drives me crazy (no pun intended) when I am traveling south, two lanes this direction, and I'm in moderate traffic. Someone traveling North wants to turn left across our lanes into a shopping center. One of the south bound lanes is stopped while the other is still moving. LEFT TURN YIELDS. The south bound lanes have the right of way. This is the law, not something you can give away to "help the individual" across those lanes. When you motion for them to cross those lanes, you are giving away a right of way THAT YOU DO NOT OWN, nor have the right to give away. The law states that "Left turn yields" . You can't change the law. If they have to sit there for an hour, then so be it, but they yield, not you. Also, on parking, if you back INTO your parking spot, you are moving while other cars are stationary. If you back OUT OF your parking spot, you are moving while other cars are moving. (I'm referring to the cars parked next to you and the ones going up and down the isles.) Over 90% of parking lot accidents occur while backing OUT OF a parking spot. (which might mean that 10% happen when you back in...huh?) David

Even worse is being stuck behind them and you can't see around 'em. I'll be glad personally when they're no longer hogging up the road and folks go back to a regular STATION WAGON!
Dingo Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I had a look at the test and couldn't answer one of them as they differ completely from the laws here in Australia, yea maybe that's why road rules around the world R stupid if you go to another country and drive on an International license it can be bloody confusing. I remember my time in the U.S. it took me the best part of 8 months to get the hang of it not only driving left hook but on the right side of the road and having the pedals the same as ours in the car but the gear lever on the right side man it was crazy but I got there and finally enjoyed 2 years of truck driiving through the U.S. of A., by the way it said I totally failed the test. Dingo ohh man i bet that was hard to do. i've never drove a car that had the steering wheel on the other side before, but i have sat in one. i couldn't imagin' tryin' to sit on that side, much less, driving on the other side of the road. i guess it would take a while to get used to.
