Fisher61 Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 (edited) Until we see a new tool '65 GTO hardtop kit, [are you watching this Revell?] the old AMT kit is the only game in town, which is great if you want a convertible, otherwise you have to glue the hardtop on which is included in the kit, and it is no fun! I originally started this one about 12 years ago, painted it and didn't like my body work on the roof so back in the box it went! Now that I'm somewhat more skilled now, I dug it back out, stripped the paint and attacked the body again and now I'm much happier , although it's not perfect. I scribed in the panel lines around the cowl, added drip rails were the roof meets the A-pillar, painted with Duplicolor and cleared it, foiled it and this is where I'm at now. So see what you think and your comments are always welcome! Thanks for looking! Edited October 4, 2009 by plumber
george 53 Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Bill, I've always liked this kit, even with it's goofs. Didja try mounting it on the 65 Chevelle Z-16 chassis? Just a thought. I noticed that on the repop,NOT the original 65 GTO, that the rear quarter caps,The little part ABOVE the tailights,at the END of the fender, are a little too vertical. I have both an original kit,and the lensney/matchbox version of the kit, and other than the headlights an that quarter panel goof, I can't see any dufference. Oh yeah, that roof is the killer ta get right!
MrObsessive Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Bill, you got that roof mounted dead on perfect!! That roof shape BTW, is more correct than Monogram's '64 Goat as it has the correct "swoop" to the roofline. So if Revell did a new '65, let's hope they get that detail right! Beautiful color BTW.............your paint jobs are always flawless!
Fisher61 Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 Thanks for the comments guys! I've been playing around with the chassis try to get the wheels centered in the wheel wells a little better. I think I got it where I want it now. Thanks for looking!
Modellpularn Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Bill, it looks really nice! Yeah, you got the roof to fit very good. I had the reissue, but never liked the separate roof.... Looks like another well built model from you!
Fisher61 Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 Thanks for the comment Hans! Started on the interior today. AMT liked to use the same tub back then weather it was a convertible or hardtop. I'm not going to try and correct that though, just want to make it more presentable. There were no door panel lines, so I added some styrene 1/2 round to represent the welting around the door opening. I also added strip styrene for the chrome trim along the top of the door. Thanks for looking!
Buildsince93 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Awesome build the paint/color is beautiful
Fisher61 Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 I going with a blue interior, painted with same paint as the body. I also painted the molded in details of the simple chassis. I wanted this Goat to have pinstripes, I laid it out with Tamiya thin masking tape and went over it with a Sharpie marker. Next I'll foil and detail the interior. Thanks for looking!
Fisher61 Posted October 4, 2009 Author Posted October 4, 2009 Here's where I'm at today with this build, body and interior are finished, working on the engine now. Thanks for looking, questions and comments always welcome!
crazyjim Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Looking terrific. Is that Nassau Blue? Looks pretty close if it isn't.
Peter Lombardo Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Not my favorite GTO kit, but you are making it look like I need to revisit that kit. Very nice work, the BMF work looks very clean and tight....nice job so far. The redlines add a perfect period touch to it....very cool.
