ismaelg Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 (edited) Hello, OK this slump has been way too long. It will be a year now in October so it is time to force the issue. One good way to get out of a slump is with a quick simple build, and nothing better for this than a Tamiya kit. Just put the paint inside, shake the box and out comes the built model There is a reason why Tamiya is the benchmark of the industry. I've never been a big Nissan fan. In fact I used to hate the brand. But their Z line has always been very competent, from the 240Z back in the 70's to the 280, 300, 350 and now the 370Z. I found this 350Z kit at a good price and thought "Why not?" I'll try (keyword **TRY**) to keep it as box stock as possible. Unfortunately the windshield was broken. I already contacted Tamiya (Thanks Harry for the link) and I hope for the best. In the meantime, let's roll! Let's start with the body. Mold lines were carefully sanded and primer was applied to check on the progress. A bit more sanding and they were gone. My favorite primer was applied: Plastikote T-236 Upon close inspection mold lines are not visible, so we are ready for block sanding the primer and apply a bit more. to be continued.......... Thanks, Edited October 21, 2009 by ismaelg
ismaelg Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 (edited) Hello again, One interesting feature of these kits is the one piece chassis plate. The engraving is nice and crisp, but still one piece. Detail painting should bring it to life. The metal axle is visible simulating the half shaft, but it looks too plain. Sooo.... just for fun I machined the half shaft boots Also, I found some steel wire that were yelling "use me!" "use me!".... so I did these lines. I'm not sure what they are but I guess it could be fuel and return lines. Not sure about the third one, but I don't think it is for brakes. Thanks, Edited October 1, 2009 by ismaelg
vizio93 Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 nice job on those boots man. how did you make them?
Foxer Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 The metal axle is visible simulating the half shaft, but it looks too plain. Sooo.... just for fun I machined the half shaft boots NOW you're in trouble! .. this is the point I know I won't be finished detailing for another year! Hey,, that's MY car...oh wait.. it's 8" short ... not my G35. Gonna be nice following this build!
simonr Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 It´s great to see you back...Good start on this one. Se ve bien... Simón P. Rivera Torres
ismaelg Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 Hello, Some color! Still pending clear. I hope to clear it early next week since I'm heading out now for a few days. Thanks,
vizio93 Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 nice paint job man. i'm not a big fan of yellow, but on that Z it looks perty good.
Janne Herajärvi Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Corvette guy builds Nissan? Very nice color choice. Yellow looks cool on it
ismaelg Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 Hello, I want to keep this as stock as possible. Yellow cars usually have black interiors. However, if I had painted this black it would disappear and nothing would be seen. So I painted it Humbrol dark grey. Embossing powder was used for the carpeting and the color for the seats was custom mixed using interior tan, light brown and a hint of dark tan, all Model Masters. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Started to work on the box stock interior. Just added embossing powder. Thanks,
Raul_Perez Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Looking good, Ismeal!! WOW!! That yellow is really BRIGHT!! Later,
vizio93 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 nice job on the interior of that Z. love how you actually put the GPS on the screen lookin' good so far.
cruz Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 The interior is looking awesome bro, the embossing powder looks good too!!!

Hey...that's how I build Tamiya kits as well this is a great model for gettin' out of a building slump coming along really nice, I like the yellow as well lookin' forward to seein' the finished model...
voljeepx Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Ismael, I am an avid follower of your work, so it is good to see you back at work. z car looks great so far, keep up the good work! I am starting a Z06 alongside the two C5_R's I am finishing and I am referring back to your older work for guidance! Best wishes on the rest of this build!
Custom Hearse Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Looks great Ismael! The yellow really stands out! I know what you mean about going into a slump. I went into one, tried to dig myself out, made it worse... I'm finally getting back into the swing of things, and with your help you've given me with the Astrovette, everything's going good! Looking forward to seeing more of this one soon... Hang in there!
travis321 Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 nice looking 350z the yellow looks great travis l
ismaelg Posted October 8, 2009 Author Posted October 8, 2009 Hello, Interior is pretty much done. Couldn't resist adding seatbelts and latches. The seatbelts in the 1:1 attach to B pillar, but since the model has full windows it will be a problem. So I took an artistic license there. Thanks,
Foxer Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 That's looking fantastic! Interior matches my G35 in color perfectly.. I'm sure they must have used the same charcoal in the G35's and 350's. The GPS came out perfect.. can almost read it from here! B-pillar mounted seat belts are a REAL chore ... these look fine.
ismaelg Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 Wheels, tires and brakes pretty much done. Tires still need to be tread sanded. Aoshima Kranze wheels. Added valve stems. Kit's brakes. Thanks,
ismaelg Posted October 14, 2009 Author Posted October 14, 2009 Polished the body. Now for the tedious part of masking and painting the black trim My elbow hurts. Can I stop polishing? Thanks,

Thanks, Yes, you may ...it's looking really-really nice I sprained the ring finger on my right hand a little while back...did not realize how much I use that dang finger!
