carchub Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 (edited) You might have seen me asking questions in the other topic section, and just thought I might put up some pictures =D Hopefully I'll use my mom's cemara next time, heheh Sorry for the quite ugly floor. I'm goin for a drive-able junker, and this is done box-stock. Not yet ready for rust =P Just a few more coats (using a brush) and I'll do rust details. Edited October 25, 2009 by The Cheese
carchub Posted October 25, 2009 Author Posted October 25, 2009 Gahh I really need to look into getting a camera, my DSi doesn't take the best pictures =(
carchub Posted October 25, 2009 Author Posted October 25, 2009 I'm not too happy with the rear bumper, but oh well.
carchub Posted October 26, 2009 Author Posted October 26, 2009 Lets see if these pictures are any different. Finished first coat on the body Second coat on hood
carchub Posted October 26, 2009 Author Posted October 26, 2009 So much better! Alright! Here's some mock ups That rear is still pushed out...
carchub Posted October 26, 2009 Author Posted October 26, 2009 Don't worry I'm not leavin' the blue all glossy like that, and the top'll be white.
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 For a second model that isn't coming out to bad. Just remember time and patients. Doing a junker is harder than building a shiny car. Looks like you've got the right ideas.
randx0 Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 glad to see some pics finally,I think it is coming along nicely and I agree it is well done for a beater and your second model the overall effect works!
BigGary Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 glad to see some pics finally,I think it is coming along nicely and I agree it is well done for a beater and your second model the overall effect works! Was this car drowned in Hurricane Katrina, painted and sold? Gary
Modlbldr Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Roland- Nice job of weathering on that ol Ford. That 60 Starliner is a nice kit, but sure has a lot of chrome. If I'm not mistaken, that paint color looks like Testors Racing Blue? That is the color that I painted my Starliner in. Great job on your second build. Let us see it when it is finished. Later-
David G. Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 It's so much fun to do a build tike that. All the weathering and distressing seems to make the car more real to me as I build it. Looks like it'll cool when it's done, keep up the good work! -D-
Foxer Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Coming along nicely. The weathering is looking very realistic.

carchub Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 Hey guys, I'm having some trouble with the painting here (sorry no pics). Since I'm using a brush, I gotta sand a bit, and it's not looking very great, not only for my lack of skills, but I have a poor selection os sandpaper. Nevermind that, I can fix that problem what I'd like is some technique ideas and tips for sanding. I started on the hood first, and I got it all sanded down. For one, it completely changed the color, but it's kinda faded so I guess it's okay for this build. But there's also (really tiny) sanding grooves along it, luckily they're all the same direction, but you can definitly notice them. Do I just need finer sandpaper? I hope so, cause it's not looking that great and I hope I can fix it.

carchub Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 1000 grit + soap and water should do the trick Sand first then soap & water?
Modlbldr Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Get a nice sized bowl full of warm soapy water and use that to wet your model and sandpaper with. This is what they refer to as wetsanding. The important thing is to periodically dry the body off to check your progress. Later-
carchub Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 Still 1000 grit too, right? If so, thanks very much!
carchub Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 Ok well I sort of stalled on the model for a while because of the bad weather we've been getting. (you may be thinking, What??) Well I have to work outside on the patio because of how much the smells bother my parents (Oh well). So now, I've got some sun, a new dremel, and I'd like to clear up what I have to do with my model. So last I heard was I had to get warm soapy water and sand it down to avoid sandpaper grooves in my paint. I'm pretty sure all I need to know is what kind of sandpaper? I'm guessing 1000 grit but I just want to be sure. Thanks in advance, -The Cheesy one
Sixties Sam Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 That's a crappy looking model, Cheese!.......That was a compliment - it's a rusty junker, so it's supposed to look like that! The weathering/rusting is looking good! Sam
carchub Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 HaHa thanks, thats what I was goin for =)
