Just got ahold of the MPC Roscoes Patrol car Not being a big Mopar guy whats in the box looks right to me except the dirt track wide wheels. Easy fix tho. Are the Centercaps right for a stock Monaco. Dunno that I've ever seen one that still has its caps lol. Did Note something about the box. Seems somebody thought a Monaco would look better with a Cordoba?? tail end hehe. Oh and since when does Roscoe need his pistol 2 shotguns a rifle that I dunno what it is and 2 assualt rifles ?? Man them Duke boys musta been some bad dudes lol

I can't help you with the reason for the wide wheels in that kit, but I'm using the stock wheels from the Lindbergh '64 Dodge, or some other steelies. They're about right for the Monaco, but still the dog dishes in that kit seem large too. Its easy to think of other uses for those wide wheels, especially for 4X4 pickups, etc. I have the copcar/Joker's goons version.

Check out the Modelhaus, I believe they have the correct wheels for this car. I think they are sold as a set, with or without tires.

Nice folks and very high quality product.

I saw one of these at the LHS the other day. I believe that it shares some of the same tool as the Force 440 from the mid seventies, hence the guns and such.

See any similarities?

The '78 Monaco is the Force 440 modified with a new body and interior. The kit was introduced in 1982 or '83 as part of the first release of the "Dukes of Hazzard" series of kits. When MPC released the Monaco four-door, the box art model was one of these Force 440 Dodge coupes modified into a four door. A couple of people had already done that by 1981. I saw one in Detroit contest coverage in SAE and started my own over the winter. I drew my own decals, changed the door lines around, and essentially finished the rest out of the box. I used AMT '69 Chevelle rally wheels to simulate the slotted cop car wheels.

Compare this with the "Rosco" box art model. We were all of us dismayed when we saw that in the catalog because we knew it was wrong. But MPC did a pretty good job of redoing the tool to create the four door body and interior.

I got hold of Tom West from MPC and managed to coax a test shot from him. I built that, and then built another which became the "Dirty Old Dodge" on SAE's January '84 cover.

I've done several since. The last, oddly enough, was a "Force 440" two door.

Here's my favorite one.

Yeah, there a lot of similarities 'cause it's the same kit, just revised.

At one time, they had the '76 style single round headlights and tail lights in the kit (I had one back when I was a teenager). Does anyone know if they are reproducing these?

I had a ex cop '76 Plymouth Fury and would like to replicate it in scale.

I picked one up yesterday at Hobby Lobby on my way home from worked and played around with the body from Rosco's car and the chassis from the 70 Super Bee. Seems like it can be made to fit to give better chassis details. Along with using the 440 from the Bee kit if I can find a single 4 intake for it. Did anyone notice the trans that is in the Rosco kit is a 4 spd. not an auto?

The DOH, TJ Hooker, and Joker 4dr issues all have wheels and tires that are way too wide. I've never had the Force 440 kit--did it have the same wheels or more realistic police wheels?

Same wheels.

A set of have any steel wheel with the cop car caps (poverty caps)

will look better.

Those '68-'70 B-Body kits make great donor kits for this car, the w.b. is just about perfect and you get a real underhood body structure too! That 4spd is normal on the kits sold from this tooling too, as is the 440-6 Pac induction.......

That's a cool Monaco, but I still think the problem was the driver of said car not the car it's self.

Believe it or not, I still haven't bought 1 of these kits yet.

Been meaning too but I have a huge stash of everything so I was trying to wein it down. well" Enos' daddy ran shine beside the Dukes Daddy's, bascially everyone's daddy ran shine with everyone else's daddy. I've seen "Enos" before infact all 18 epsiodes,

Yeah, I just wished I could find something to stuff under the AMT 69 Barracuda. It's a decent body, but the chassis and engine stink to high heaven. I wanted to build one of them as that red and white and gold test mule car that you can find pics of in the Mopar Performance engine and chassis books. The one that has chrome reversed steel wheels on it. And I wanted to build the second one I have into a car like a friend of mine used to own. Gotta find a better chassis before I can proceed though.

Always wondered why MPC decided to put a boxart of the four door version with Monaco coupe rear end :D

(Funny that MPC designer took the coupe as insparation instead of a real 4dr). ....Look real good, better then the 1/1 :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Look no further than the Revell 68/69 Dart GTS, soon to be reissued as a 68 Hemi Dart, which will make that test mule even easier to do.

The AMT 71 Duster will also work well for the chassis in that conversion.

:D

Thanks for that advice. I'll check those out. I might even have a Duster in my stash.
