beefheart22 Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Darn some of you guys hit the ground running on this! I just pulled mine out of the box and washed the parts. Haven't even thought about painting/assembly. I'm almost done with a Camaro that I got WIP right now, so I'll try and get a start on the T/A I entered this weekend. Ed, that Challenger is looking good. The engine looks fantastic.
charlie8575 Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 The engine is about 99% done. I'll put the oil filler neck on after it's in place so I don't brake it. The Pontiac Engine Blue dried very nicely. The aluminum on the transmission is still a little tacky, but it could be handled. I also ran some aluminum over a few chromed parts that are aluminum, like the fan clutch and alternator housing. Charlie Larkin
Jason Vandergriff Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Well time for a update. I got to looking at the body tonight and decided to offically commit this to the bench for a little bit between projects. IIll be starting with amt's 69 Corvair and a 97 Corvette. In order to do the 4 wheel independant i could scratchbuild or use most of the vette kit. So I made the first cuts on the corvette frame. Got it under the body now I need to correct the wheel base and start rebuilding all of supports and adding details. I need to open the trunk and am contemplating opening the doors after the roof mods Im doing. I see a wagon in the future. Pics after work or before bed.
Lownslow Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 (edited) Update im done http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25859 Edited December 19, 2009 by Lownslow
Wayne Buck Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Hey guys, been really busy working lately but I did have a few chances to get some work done on the project. I have the interior pretty much done. It's all stock with the addition of a tach, some gauges and a rollbar that I fabbed up real quick. I also removed the radio. I also got the engine put together. Still have to wire it though. I'm not real crazy about the belt setup. Looks kinda stupid to me, but I will probably leave it alone. I don't know how much of it will be seen once the car is all together. I might also ditch the air cleaners, remove the high beams and build a ram-air setup like the old thunderbolts used to run. I'm trying to find some hoses for the intake tubes that look good. cant go wrong with cragar SSs why not put steel wheels all the way around and mail the cragars to me ? at any rate, welcome aboard en enjoy Sorry, diymirage, I really like the cragars on it. If you really want a set, I'll see if I can dig some up in my parts bin. They came from the ertl 70 Baldwin Motion Camaro. The fronts are deeper than the rears. Maybe now that we got some snow, I can work on this beast for a while today!

charlie8575 Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 (edited) The engine is now attached to the chassis, and the wheel/tire assemblies are now together. For the first time in probably pushing twenty years, I did some deacling, specifically the redlines on the tires. Those unbranded, bald-sided blackwalls Revell give us look awful, and absolutely needed something on them to make them passable. The decals curled and twisted and were very hard to get on, but they got placed and are now drying. Probably stupidly, I applied the decals after applying the tires. I'll probably hit the tires with some acrylic flat clear after, Does anyone know if decal set can be used on tires safely? I'd like to try and get the film dissolved. charlie8575 Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 At this juncture... The exhaust is in (what a pain to put that on! The locating pins were almost useless, and I couldn't get them to attach to much of anything firmly...) The chassis is now assembled saved for the tires, steering shaft and the shocks, one of which has gone missing. I've already sent a replacement request to Revell. As I'll be moving in about 2-2&1/2 weeks, progress may be a little slow for a while. As I'll also be setting up shop at my parents for the time being, progress might also be almost non-existent for about a month until I can get fully settled in, but I'll do what I can. Charlie Larkin
Captain Obvious Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Everyone's progress looks great, and that Challenger turned out incredibly well! No photograph-able progress here yet, but maybe tonight...about all I have done is the engine block and cylinder heads glued together, as well as the transmission halves (the Fairlane kit actually has TWO separate transmissions!)...oh, and body color sprayed on the underside of the hood and inside the engine bay. I want to get the body primed and the chassis at least coated in flat black tonight, but we'll see...

Smart-Resins Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Oh, I just found this. Im in. Can I enter a 2010 camaro sport wagon? Oh, just kidding! LOL. I know that 60's super sport drag cars were indeed street legal and breathing testosterone, so I believe I should fit in with either of these builds. Jody 1965 dodge Coronet 500 1969 Chevy Camaro Convertibel
CustomFerrari Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 as long as it isnt too close to done ill allow it in yah i just started her yesterday all i got is the engine base built
Matt P Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I just picked up the Lindberg 66 Chevelle, I know it's close to Charlie's GTO, but can I enter it? It'll be my first WIP postings in this forum.

Jody 1965 dodge Coronet 500 1969 Chevy Camaro Convertibel i like the dodge a lot better then the camaro but in the interest of keeping this a build i would suggest the camaro since the dodge is almost done already so shall i ad the camaro to the list ?
diymirage Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 yah i just started her yesterday all i got is the engine base built cool ill ad you to the list then I just picked up the Lindberg 66 Chevelle, I know it's close to Charlie's GTO, but can I enter it? It'll be my first WIP postings in this forum. how close your build is to someone else depends on how custom you will build it right ? so there is your inspiration to make it special, now get to working (it really doesnt mather that the base model is close to one that is already entered. as long as you make it your own you'll be fine) ill ad you to the list
Smart-Resins Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 In all honesty, I started both just this week! The camaro is also closer to being done then the dige! it may not appear that way, but it is! The camaro has been cleaned up and ready for painting. The dodge was already painted(from polar lights) The decals I just put on 2 days ago. Messed one up and waiting on more to come to finish it off. Everything else4 has to be stripped, then smoothed out for painting. The front and rear frame members are warped and the rear end is both warped and twisted. So the camaro will be done and easier to do then the didge by far!! LOL. All you see in that pic is the good side and tires. In the camaro, you see the whole thing ready and prepped. LOL. Jody

Cobrawannabe Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) Big changes since the last update. I slung some mud for the first time today! -Front bumper delete -Rear bumper delete -Front valance molded in -Rear valance molded in -Mailbox was lifted up to clear blower -Shaved door handles ( to create the look of fiberglass doors -Shaved side markers -Smoothed license plate bracket Here it is before the hardcore bodywork started and I was test-fitting the body... http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii233/c...racudaProg2.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii233/c...racudaProg3.jpg and after the shaving and molding. I'm still not sure if I'm going to "primer" the front valance or not... http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii233/c...racudaProg4.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii233/c...racudaProg5.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii233/c...racudaProg6.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii233/c...racudaProg7.jpg I still plan on adding some sort of duck tail spoiler...
