David G. Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I have ordered a '71 Delta 88 from R&R Resin and Steve there said I would need an engine and tires (wheels too?) to complete the model. If anybody could help by recommending a source for these items I would appreciate the assistance. I'm not lazy. I could search, but I believe in taking advantage of the knowledge and experience of others who are willing to share it. Thanks, David G.
george 53 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Dave, any 442 kit, or old Toronado kit should do the job. All Olds blocks,at least the newer ones, look the same from the outside.
Casey Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I would suggest you use either the 455 from the new Revell '72 Olds Cutlass convertable kit or the AMT/MPC '69 Olds 442/Hurst Olds kits.
ChrisPflug Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 The AMT '66 442 convertible has a nice 4 barrel Olds with A/C- it's a 4 speed though The Revell comes with an auto trans option and the AMT '69 is stick shift but has a separate bellhousing that can be "blended" into a popular automatic
charlie8575 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 The wheelcovers might be the toughest thing to do. This is the 1971 Olds brochure that'll give you some pictures. I'm thinking you might be able to cobble something up from another GM wheelcover. Wheelbacks and tires are available from The Modelhaus http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_itemId=122085 What are your thoughts on this kit overall? I might be interested in buying one. David G. Posted January 7, 2010 Author Posted January 7, 2010 Thanks for the suggestions everybody, I've got some things to look into now. I was hoping to find a 455 in resin, independent of a kit. But if I can find a kit that has an option between a 455 and 350, I wouldn't mind spending the money on it. Otherwise, $20 to $25 is a bit too steep for an engine and a resulting parts car. Charlie Larkin Charlie, The kit comes with wheel covers, but I run my 1:1 with black painted stock steel wheels and chrome lug nuts, so I would like to find some of those. I also want to convert it from a 2-door hard top to a town sedan, like the one I drive. Also, thanks for the link, but I already have that same sales brochure... and owner's manual... and build sheet... yeah, I'm kind of a fanatic. I just ordered the kit yesterday, but Dukefan69 has one he's working on. That's how I knew that one even existed. Still, I'll let you guys know what I think when I get it. Chris, That AMT '66 sounds like the way to go. Not only having the engine and AC, but it's likely to have the stock steelies, though they may be 14"rs. Hmmm... options, optoins, options. Thanks again guys!
mikemodeler Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 David, You might be able to source your steelies from Modelhaus, they have a big variety of replacement wheels/tires/hubcaps available for tons of old kits. There might be someone who would be willing to swap the motor you need, just list your desire in the swap section and you might be surprised at the responses. Mike

David G. Posted January 22, 2012 Author Posted January 22, 2012 It's been a while since I thought of this one. In the meantime, I've acquired several Cutlass 442's, including a '66 and a couple of '70 or '71s. I also found a '70 Impala as a frame donor. Maybe I should scrape the pile together and see what I've got. Thanks to everybody for the input! David G.
Swifster Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I would think the '70 Buick Wildcat chassis would fit perfectly under the Olds.
