Towmaster Dave Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) I bought this kit saturday at a model show in Albany, Oregon. I have had some ideas rolling around in my head for some time for one of these trucks. Sunday I started on it, I originally was going to put a mid-'90s stepside on it and chop the top. I cut the fenders off and molded the stock '50 fenders to the '90s bed. Today I successfully sectioned the cab and hood, my first time tring it. Next is a mild chop and then the rest I'm not sure yet, no game plan. Thanks for Looking, Dave Edited April 5, 2010 by Towmaster Dave
Raul_Perez Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 That's coming along very nicely!! Some of the design cues are the same as what I've done to my '50 Chevy pickup, but I didn't section mine... I'll be really interested in seeing yours through to completion!! On that note...I need to get back to work on mine!! Later,
cruz Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Very creative, the Corvette rims make it stand out even more!!
plasticfrog Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I realy like how you did the cab on this......I thought about the same thing with this kit in the late 90s but never got to it now after seeing yours makes me want to get it out Great project cant wait to see it
Towmaster Dave Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the compliments. This was the first time I tried sectioning a model and it wasn't as bad as I thought, I just have to redo the hood, its off just a little on one side. Raul I watched your WIP on your truck, it, along with your other are great builds and great looking trucks. Thanks again for looking and the comments, Dave Edited January 27, 2010 by Towmaster Dave
Towmaster Dave Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 Here is the chopped roof. I took 3mm out of the roof and 4mm out of the body. Next is to finish the putty work, convert it to a three window. That will be next week, this week is packing and moving this weekend, Thanks for looking, Dave
jeffs396 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Neat project Dave!!! Can't wait to see more. Good luck with your move, I think I'd rather take a beating than move!
Foxer Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I really like the proportions on it .. nice job.
george 53 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Neat project Dave!!! Can't wait to see more. Good luck with your move, I think I'd rather take a beating than move!
Jeff Sauber Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Nice bodywork, that's looking very sharp!!
Raul_Perez Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Looking at how you got the top of the bed aligned with the beltline makes me wish that I had sectioned mine, too. Oh well...I'll have to save that trick for the next one that I build!! To align mine better, I'll be adding a solid cover to the top of the bed and putting a small spoiler on the back edge to give it a little more height. Yours is really looking good!! I really like the proportions...long and low!! The only change I might suggest for yours would be to slant tailgate area forward just a little. When I slanted mine, I used the stock lower seat cushion from the pickup to make the new tailgate. I'll make taillights from red translucent sheet stock. Keep up the GREAT work!! I really like how this one is coming along!! Later,

Towmaster Dave Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Finally got some more done to my truck. Got the bed all done, made a rear roll pan, frenched in the custom taillights from the AMT 59 ElCamino into the end of the bed, added real Cedar bed floor (thanks Fletch for the idea) and using real aluminum strips for the bed. and finally cut a Bowtie in the tailgate and that will have a piece of Cedar cut to completely fill it in. Also got some done on the front end. Cut one bar out of the grill, made a lower front roll pan, added a strip between the hood and grill and finally started molding in a set of dual headlights, just have to add a couple more pieces of plastic, some bondo and lots of sanding. Thanks for looking Dave
brett Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Wow man thats looking great, the proportions are spoton. Going to be a stunner when yo're done.
diymirage Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 i generally dont like truck but this one is coming along nicely
george 53 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 NICE headlight treatment! I flows perfectly with the original lines of the truck!!! VERY subtle, but effective!!!! It's comin out NICE!!!!
crazyjim Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Hey Dave, your pickup is looking mighty good. Keep it going!
Deckerz Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Wow that is some nice bodywork you have done there. Loving the huge bowtie, nothing says that its a chevy more then that lol.
Raul_Perez Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I like it all, except for the big bow tie on the tailgate, (but that's just me...). The front is really coming together nicely, especially the quad headlights!! With all of the mods you've done so far, are you also going to do something with the running boards? Later,
Towmaster Dave Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 A little more progress this weekend, Finally Paint!!!!!! This has been the third or forth paint job on this truck, either the body work was just not right or something else i did. The final color is Lapids Blue by HOK, originally was going to be Galaxy Grey by HOK but ran out of that color. Now do I dare painting some graphics on it???? enjoy the pics.....
Towmaster Dave Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 Couple more pics, I did build a different tailgate, got ride of the wood Bowtie and as you can see Raul, I keep the factory style running boards. Thanks for Looking, Dave
Raul_Perez Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I like this tailgate much better!! I think that the stock running boards probably look best with the "old school" tire/wheel combination you've chosen. The interior is coming along nicely!! Later,
rustybill1960 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Nice design and execution on the build Dave! Thank You for sharing Later Russ
