Sixties Sam Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 A guy posted this link on another forum I visit. I could not believe these were models, and not real cars! Amazing realism! My link
Harry P. Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 We're trying to track down this guy. I want to do a magazine feature on his work. His photos are amazing, the best I've seen by far!
george 53 Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 WOW other than the lack of people, THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!! Some were easy to tell, midldle of the day, an intersection with absolutely NO peaople? But ALOT MORE actually could pass for REAL in MY opinoin. Those black and white ones are absolute killers! This guy IS GOOD!!! Thanks for posting it!
disabled modeler Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 WOW !!!!! The dioramas are just awesome! And the photography is too.....I would have never believed some were models instead of the real thing if I hadn't read the heading.....WOW!
Joker Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 (edited) George ,I'm a car nut first , never even thought about people , weird but true. Saw his work on the H.A.M.S. Model builders board and the last thing I saw was the ceiling. TKO work! James Edited January 31, 2010 by kit bash
Tony T Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Just flat out awesome! The vehicles, the buildings, roads, use of backgrounds, snow, water, etc etc. I was going to say that the only thing missing was people! Just awesome!! Wow!
Mercman Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Most of the cars are Franklin Mint, and Danbury cars, along with some models. He did however scratch build most of the buildings. The diner is a work of art in itself.
charlie8575 Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Looks like he lives somewhere in eastern Massachusetts, so he's not too far from me. Harry, I found how to e-Mail him and did so. If contact is made, I'd be willing to help write/shoot the article if you need it. Just let me know. Charlie Larkin
KarDude.com Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) The absolute best I have ever seen. This guy must work in the movies doing miniature sets and such. What a talent. Oh, to be able to do work this good. I'm jealous. Posted Today, 11:41 AM They did a feature on this guy last night on the CBS Evening News in the Steve Hartman's Asignment America segment. Here's a link to the segment. You have to watch a short ad first and then the video of this guy comes on. http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=6344947n&tag=contentMain;contentBody. This post has been edited by KarDude.com: Today, 11:43 AM He also has a website where you can view his photos. Here's the link: http://elginpark.smugmug.com/ Edited March 30, 2010 by KarDude.com
Ryan Quantz Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) Great work, seriously. Don't get me wrong, but everything looks too "clean" to be real. The buildings and such need some "wear" and "age" to me. No doubt a very skilled hand behind those though. Maybe things were actually clean and nice back in the day... I was born in the 80s, everything is dirty these days. If only I had the attention span to do something like that. Got the patience, but i'd get bored with it fast. Thanks for the link, that was nice to look at. Edited March 15, 2010 by Ryan Quantz
Sixties Sam Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 There was a feature on this guy (Michael Paul Smith) on ABC-TV news tonight. Here is a link to the story on their website. Elgin Park photos His Flickr site has had 9 million hits!
Brizio Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 It is a amazing work! But no people... And on a car magazine they said that he didn't build the cars. BTW looks nice too!
DanielG Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I'm sorry, but that is more about photography than model building, BUT, they do look really nice, don't they?!
wilderness1989 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 only one thing to say WOW!!! DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PappyD340 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 WOW! It really doesn't matter if it's the modeling or the photography, this guy has some serious talent in both aspects!!!
southpier Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 reminds me of the Twilight Zone episodes where all the people are gone but one.
raildogg Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Great photos but it's the models that are the focal point. Rod Serling would have used these in the Twilight Zone for sure. Erie and yet, beautiful in it's desolation. KUDOS
Jeremy Jon Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) Wow! Amazing work! Some of those you can't tell from photos of the real thing! Edited July 30, 2013 by Jeremy Jon
Piero Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Michael Paul Smith did the best model car pictures I've seen on the web... Looks so real, there is only a mysterious thing, nobody in the streets ! I've chatted about his and my pictures on flicker, he's a nice guy !
Skydime Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 (edited) Check it out. I found a video in Yahoo headlines about Michael Paul Smith, doing models and dioramas used to create spectacular photos. http://blog.flickr.net/en/2013/10/04/crafting-scenes-of-iconic-americana/ Edited October 4, 2013 by Skydime
