Scale-Master Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Now if one were know to have pics of said scum, and various event holders knew of such pics and were to request them via PM, e-mail, or even snail mail and show them to the people working the show but not putting them out for all to see............................... Yes, that is precisely what I requested in post #25 thank you for reiterating it. “If you don’t want to make it public, send a PM, please respond either way for the sake of the modeling society.â€

george 53 Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Even though it happened in the 5th grade, I NEVER forgot about it! It was a Candy Blue 49 Ford coupe, I modded the front fenders and installed Jag XKE headlights, it kinda looked like a modern taurus, an it had the custom V'd tailights from the AMT 57 Ford sunken into the rear fenders vertically. It was my first custom paint job, my first from a can, and the first one I ever thought was nice enough to show off. I even knew who took it, Grady Stephenson, the theif! When I told our teacher, Mr.Bond, he said he couldn't do ANYTHING caz he DIDN'T see it!!! After that, I NEVER built a model to show again! I still build 'em, to the best of my ability, so I can enjoy them, And I've been known to give some away,if the individual REALLY likes one, but NO, I will NEVER enter another contest again, unless of course they let me carry my peice in the show, there is ARMED security AND the tables are being watched on closed ciurcit(?) T.V. DON'T EVER STEAL a KIDS model, they will NEVER forgive OR forget!!! Believe me!!!! ( Thanks Ed, I needed to get that off my chest!!!)

sweptline64 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 i think they should put all the models in a show in a locked display case and the only way to get your model out at the end of the show is to show a picture id and one of the event staff is the one to retrieve it out of the display case that way no one can steal what we have put so much hard work into. and yes i had one stolen but i got lucky and got it back a week later i had entered a chevy dually snapfast kit that i lowered painted aluma coupe yellow flocked the interior and made my own shifters for the steering coulum. i took second in the show and when i went to pick it up my model was gone luckily what happened is one of the other entrants had entered one simillar and had taken mine by mistake the hobby shop owner called him and he brought it back when he got back from being out of town. so i had a happy ending a week later but it made me not want to enter any more shows. but i am going to try and attend the one for the jwac build and i will be keeping a close eye on my model.
puddingwrestler Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Interesting that you mention locked cabinets - the first time I entered Model Expo (Melbourne, Australia model show) they used glass display cabinets, but they were not locked as far as I remember. Possibly they locked them during the show and unlocked when it was time to collect builds, I know they were unlocked when I went to collect my stuff. This was in 2001. The second time I entered was in 2008, and they'd moved venues (the original burned down apparently, while I was not paying attention due to oving over to wargaming instead of modeling for a while). The new venue does not have display cabinets, so it's back to tables. I have not had anything pinched, but then again, I have not made anything really pinch worthy. I haven't heard anything about models bieng pinched from Model Expo, but I admit I have not been paying very close attention.
charlie8575 Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I think the idea of a photo ID is a good idea. At the very least, it would be good to give receipts to the entrants that are numbered and identify the model. Just keep them with you, and pick up at the end. Charlie Larkin
sjordan2 Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 (edited) Good idea about the receipt – sort of like a "coat check" system. A numbered tag stays with the model and you get a receipt stub with the same number to use for ID at pick-up time. Or, you could get a duplicate of your entry form. Edited July 8, 2010 by sjordan2
