Jamez Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 (edited) I picked this up at a yard sale a couple weeks ago and finaly got around to starting to rescue it. Its an old AMT '68 Camaro z-28 Street Machine kit. The wheels, steering linkage, and front springs/spindles are all missing, the left A-pillar is broken and left lower door sill is broken. Hopefully I can revive it. Here it is as I got it. Not that I've already got the spindles sort of made here, and decided to articulate the suspension on the front. I figure if it is missing the Steering linkage, I might as well make it pose able. Overall this will likely be a slow build as my 60hr work week keeps me busy, but expect an update on the chassis soon... Edited December 4, 2010 by Jamez
Romell R Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Looks like this is gonna be a nice re-build , but before you go any further you maight want to reconsider the type of hinge your using. the one you have on the body right now is incorrect. Try this link it will help you to correct that. correct hing

Jamez Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 I completely agree with you both on the hinges, that is just the way the previous builder had set them up. With any luck I will get to a hobby shop this weekend to find some brass and try my luck at building hinges. Never done that before... I am currently on the hunt for the velocity stacks, apparently they were missing from the kit too.... Hopefully I will have a shot of the engine/chassis tomorrow night.
Jamez Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 Some progress on the engine, it needs a couple spots touched up.... I was going to try my hand at wiring this engine, but the blower that came in the kit is off so bad that there is no room for one. I think I might look to see if the leftover blower from my chevelle will fit properly while retaining the distributor. Thanks for looking
Jamez Posted July 17, 2010 Author Posted July 17, 2010 looks like I'm just going to leave the engine, the other kit is a different scale and just doesn't work, so I rounded up a bug catcher to replace the missing velocity stacks. I have the chassis and engine pretty much done Also rebuilt the hinges so they open inward.... this was my first ever attempt at making these And a couple of general progress shots I think I may have to figure out how to make disc brakes for this one.... Thanks for looking
Jamez Posted October 17, 2010 Author Posted October 17, 2010 Well, its been a while..... I just wasn't happy with the stance at all, the exhaust wasn't working for me, and I had a major mental block about jack stands. So over the last few months the chassis and engine got completely redone. The engine got repainted, a bugcatcher was found, and the headers were modified. The stance was corrected and the wheels sucked in closer to the frame, and some jackstands got built. See : http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=36151&pid=377116&st=0&#entry377116 I'm very happy with the changes, to me, it is 100% better. Gonna start painting the interior tonight.
Jamez Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 This interior has been driving me absolutely nuts. I've stripped it 3 times to get it where it is at, and I'm still not happy, but I just don't have another go in me. Four paint jobs is good enough for now. Honest opinions everyone. What do you think? Should I strip it again? As always, thanks for looking
AceofBass Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Naw dude, that looks bada$$! I wish I could get my interiors to look that good..
zak78 Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Honest opinions everyone. What do you think? Should I strip it again? As always, thanks for looking I think it looks great. You can only do so much with those little gauges, since they're molded in. The sharp contrast between the colors is strong enough to steal the show, and looks very cleanly executed.

And once the body's on half that work will seemingly disapear ,leaving you to wonder what you were stressing about .
Jamez Posted December 4, 2010 Author Posted December 4, 2010 FINALLY got this thing painted! The hood fits like ######, but I've been working on this thing almost a year and I just want it done! I accidentally grabbed a can of "pearl" clear when I bought the paint, but overall, I'm happy with the way it turned out. Take a look.. Paint came out really clear, this has not had anything applied and no polishing. Straight out of the booth As always, thank for looking, and any input is welcome! May be before new years I'll ge tthe BMF on and the trim finished
Modlbldr Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 That rebuild is looking fantastic with the exception of one thing. To me those tires are not tall enough. The sidewall is too thin and doesn't fill the wheel wells enough. I do like the wheels and the rest of the build though. Later-
Jamez Posted December 5, 2010 Author Posted December 5, 2010 I stole the wheels and tires off of an old X-mod rc car that was laying around, I'll have to see if I have anymore rubber for them laying around....
cazxr2 Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Ace work. 2 thumbs up. I wish I had ur skills.
Jamez Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 This one is finally done, on display "under glass" http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=40311&st=0#entry417962
