Greg Cullinan Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I think I would be leaving the jeep right there . That is if I could get out:huh:.
Wagoneer81 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Yeah, watch that first step, driver... It's a doozy! I've heard that Full Size Jeep owners are odd birds and a bit off balance and do things like this for fun... I've heard that, mind you...
pepperdrumstix Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 It looks like his right arm is behind his neck in a "what do I do now?" gesture. Those big rocks on his passenger side are large enough to tilt that Jeep even more towards the edge. Who took the photo? Kinda reminds me of the oldest road in the USA. The Apache Trail dirt path-road in AZ. There are places on it not much wider than this road. The trail sets along a canyon wall like this. Would make a nice diorama for a wall display. Use a tunnel portal on each end with this scene in the middle. Interesting photo. The photographer must have crawled out the back and over the Jeep to take this photo. Unless he was in a vehicle in front of this Jeep. My sphincter would be grabbing some deep seat by now. LOL Patrick
my name is nobody Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 we have 4 X 4 ratings we go by. I think this one qualifies as V.D.L. * * * * * * * * * * * Vehicle Damage Likely.
highway Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Would that make that Jeep "Trail Rated"? Or is it just a Jeep thing that I wouldn't understand?
Joe Handley Posted July 11, 2010 Author Posted July 11, 2010 Supposedly this is an old Warn Winch Print Ad from the 70's, and it's a photoshop done the old fashion way...with a couple pictures and an X-Acto knife
Wagoneer81 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Would that make that Jeep "Trail Rated"? Or is it just a Jeep thing that I wouldn't understand? Just so long as it isn't "If you can read this, flip me back over"... everything will be just fine...
highway Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 (edited) And that is exactly the reason I stay on terra firma!!! If I was meant to fly, I'd have wings!!! Oh, and the fear of being the fifth face on Mt. Rushmore doesn't help, either!!! Edited July 11, 2010 by highway
sweptline64 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Here's another one, but this one's real "see george i told you i could land on one wheel!"
Jeff Johnston Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 It looks like that plane is nowhere near a runway and is heading through the fence AND right into the photographer. It's hard to believe that's a real pic but I'm no expert.. Where is the runway ? What I do know is that if that jet is on one wheel, having just "landed", whoever is standing there taking that pic is a dead man... The plane that big is probably 130 knots at landing, way too fast to stop for that fence lol.
Harry P. Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 The Jeep photo is obviously a fake. The plane? I would think so, too.
Railfreak78 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 That Jeep thing might be fake but there are some trails like that here in AZ. My dad took a truck on one as a kid on Mt.Ord but they have since cut into the mountain to widen it. Also the back way from Lake Pleasant to Crown King has one spot that is very narrow with a cliff if you are in a full size truck. A very cool trail if you have a quad. I did it on a 3 wheeler. Crown King is a small town in the middle of a mountain top with a hotel a couple shacks and a bar
B_rad88 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 thats nothing, go watch Top Gear Bolivia special, Jeremy drives a land rover more on the very edge tring to pass a car, now that was hair raiser!
Karmodeler2 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 The Jeep photo is obviously a fake. The plane? I would think so, too. Hey Harry, I am almost certain the plane photo is not a fake. I fly heavy jets for a living and there are numerous cross-wind landing photos and videos on line that show just how some of the places we go into can be hair raising to say the least. Lajes, in the Azores, has a 25-35 knot cross minimum every day. I have lined up on the runway, but was looking out the co-pilot's window to see the runway. I earned my money that day. That place sucks!! David
Jeff Johnston Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I'm still having a hard time believing the jet pic is real. I can understand you could get caught up in a crosswind or even have to crab all the way past the end of the runway, but there is no runway to be seen in that photo and what does look like runway is of the the pilots right...or at least thats what it looks like. I believe that is a plane landing, but not in that location...headed for the fence with no runway visible.

See how it is almost flat the weight has been shifted either from taking the corner too fast or a huge gust of wind caught the airplane. I would suspect the latter. Any pilot worth his salt even private pilots know the taxi speeds. The flaps are full down I would say he/she had it configured for landing when they turning to exit the runway the wind got them and there hind ends grabbed some seat cushion.
GOTH KUSTOMS Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Gee lets just think a moment here, the guy taking the picture, is not actually that close to the fence, he must of used a telescoping lens, so he's safe, and then the tire the plane is landing on has a puff of smoke blowing away from it to the left, sure he may be out of runway, but thats flying on the edge....
Joe Handley Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 Here's where that pic is from, http://www.airliners.net/photo/SATA-International/Airbus-A310-325-ET/1615692/L/ The reason the it looks like there is no runway left is because the plane is coming sideways and pointed at the side of it right at the camera man I've driven by the DuPage County Airport on my way to work off and on for over a decade now and have seen quite a few private aircraft coming in for a landing sideways like that while driving under them as they're trying to land on a windy day.....very un-nerving sight to see through the top of your windshield, believe me
darquewanderer Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Well, the photo of the Jeep might indeed be a fake, but it sure brought back memories of circumnavigating Oahu. Especially the north shore area in an Opel Kadette, back in '72 or '73.
Abell82 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I'm looking at the actual engines on the plane. Why are they at different angles? The left one is pointing up, the right is straight on?
highway Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I'm looking at the actual engines on the plane. Why are they at different angles? The left one is pointing up, the right is straight on? If you look really close, the wing with the wheel on the ground looks lower, too. That would say to me the force on the wheel is probably bending the wing down, where the wing in the air is in its normal position. Just think of it with a car with a misadjusted brake, the car will be pulled to the side the brake is sticking. The wheel on the ground is the sticking brake in this case, and the force on the landing gear would be twisting that wing backward, thus making it look like the engine is lower.
