Personally, I think it's enough if the poster's true full name appears either in the profile at left or in the signature; either way, it's there for reference in every post.

And I don't have a problem with the name identification requirement; if non-disclosure is that important, then elect to not participate in the forum, it's that simple. It's a personal choice, just like any other. If it's that significant a concern to you, then you just have to forego some of the things you might otherwise be able to enjoy.

Bottom line; it's Gregg's forum and that is one of the things you have to do to play in his forum. Ya don't wanna, ya don't hafta.

Hello, Everybody. I usually don't get wrapped up in things unrelated to modeling here but feel that I need to finally make a couple of observations on this matter...

1. I'm not afraid to post my name. If someone is deranged enough to go through all the trouble of sifting me from all the other Chris Eddy's in this state for the intent of doing me physical harm, let him try. I'll deal with him or her, plain and simple. If a person is that afraid to post their first and last name on their profile, I do feel sorry for them for thinking they have to be afraid of their own shadow. It's not like Gregg is asking for Social Security number, Drivers License number and Mothers maiden name or anything of that caliber. It's your name, you're supposed to use it, that's why it was given to you at birth, that's what being part of society requires... Society... Social... Social Networking... being a Social Person... get it??? Anyone??? If you are afraid to tell someone your own name, go to the nearest Mental Health Clinic and make an appointment, please. I'm not being mean or cruel... You're not crazy, you just have a social phobia that will only get worse with time

2. It's Gregg's board. If the big fish says you need to follow these rules to swim in his pond, then FOLLOW THEM!!! B);):) I've seen new boards shut down because the rules were not enforced and a few low-life sociopaths ruined the experience for everyone else. Without rules, anarchy would rule and this would no longer be the best Modeling Forum on the Web.

3. In the grand scheme of things, this really is much ado about nothing. This is a MODEL BUILDING SITE. We're not trying to cure Cancer or save the rainforests here, folks. By no means am I degrading this site as it and the magazine are a great big part of Gregg's life and efforts and I truly appreciate it being made available to us. It is a wonderful modeling tool that leaves me wondering how I got along without it. But, fellas, when you are waiting for the phonecall telling you that your grandmother in Ohio has died... when you are wondering if your best friend will live out the day down in St Vincent ICU or you'll be getting that call as well... when you are losing your home and moving in with your sister because you can't work, much less walk some days because of illness and injury and The Disability Office is giving you the old Red Tape Runaround... when you're wondering if you will live or whether your illness will severely shorten your life as well... in the end, it's just a few letters on a screen and shouldn't even be on your radar. I'd love to live a carefree existence where this and other petty bickering was something to get upset about but I don't live that kind of life. The above "when"s are what I am really dealing with right now so do what you want. Complain about favoritism, complain about all the little piddly things you see wrong with your world. Go ahead and stick your finger in the mousetrap and complain with suprise when it slams shut on you. That's what Gregg's test thread has become... a mousetrap. :)B)

Ok, here endeth the rant...

Sincerely yours,

Christopher Eddy

I will check that.

The problem I think I had before was that it was not retroactive.

I could add the field, but it would not affect, or require those registered before, to have that field filled in.

Now, with 6,000 plus members, it would almost impossible to go backwards and have the fields changed.

I tried something once, and it shut the board down, me included!!!

Well, whatever you did, it worked, Big Kahuna!! I now see "Full Name" where "First Name" used to be!!! And, hey, at least it didn't shut the board down this time! :):)

Agreed.

And, Chris: Thanks for the perspective. There are more important issues. Good luck to you, Godspeed and God Bless; that's a lot for you and yours to be carrying. I hope all works out well for you; best wishes!

I hope you guys never post on a political message board. A wacko found my posts here and put them on a political board. He also found out where I live and had a free medical book about Colitis sent to me, just to let me know that he knows where to find me. Yeah, yeah, I know, having a pulse means he didn't need the posts here. <sarcasm>

Okay, so you got that flamer out of the way and he knows your last name. Care to share it with your forum colleagues?

I'd be willing to bet that there is not one single member here who is totally anonymous online. It's impossible, your name and much more is out there in dozens of places already.

Putting your real name in your signature here will not compromise your security in any way... because that perceived "security" is just a myth in our current on-line world. You're name and much more are all already out there in more places than you think. If you think you have kept your anonymity to this point, you are naive.

If people want to use phony names, I'd much prefer some humorous ones, like Amanda Hugnkiss, Mya Butreaks, Al Coholic, Oliver Klozoff, Jacques Strap, Bea O'Problem, Ivana Tinkle........

Just sayin'. ;)B)B)

I say leave those people alone just for bringing some chuckles to the board!

Patty O'Furniture?

My dad used to work part-time at Sears for a little extra cash in lawn and garden, and always claimed he and the rest of the clerks had an affair with her every spring. B)

If you're too scared to use your full name on a modeling board, you probably shouldn't leave the house. EVER. And never get a credit card or bank account, or own a car, or pay rent or a mortgage, etc...

I ONLY participate in boards that require real names. I always had a hard time refering to another grown man as "chunkylover53"

I agree....There's tons of other ways to get info on people...

Hell, you can get info on somebody by simply going through their trash cans...[which are typically left at the curb and are readily available to those who are up to no good.]..You'd be surprised how many folks toss out important documents with out bothering to shred stuff..or they get stupid and leave their wallet/other personal items containing data in the car...

Posting your name on the net isn't that big of a deal.

I'll bet alot of these folks who are complaining about getting their ID stolen here and are avoiding the rules and not wanting to use their names, are some of the same one's who are careless and toss out their personal info without using the fireplace or a good shredder..... B)

I dress only in attire specially sanctioned by MiB special services. I conform to the identity given to me,eat where I'm told, live where I'm told. I have no identifying marks of any kind. I do not stand out in any way. My entire image is crafted to leave no lasting memory with anyone I encounter. I am a rumor, recognizable only as deja vu and dismissed just as quickly. I don't exist; I was never even born. Anonymity is my name. Silence my native tongue. I am no longer part of the System. I am above the System. Over it. Beyond it. I am "them." We are "they." I am one of the Men in Black.

Just Google your name and see what comes up. I am sure you are not the only one with the same name as you have. With out any other information other than your name. You may be surprised how many of you are out there with the same name?
