Modelmartin Posted July 19, 2010 Author Posted July 19, 2010 Looks like Cole is in the lead so far with a few other honorable mentions. That Avalanche/Escalade thing with all of the cladding is exquisitely awful! Now, Harry! You are dissing one of my favorites! The Fiat Multipla is a classic! It is the finest toaster on wheels and I would love to own one. The Aurora ( I believe that wa the name) safety car designed and built by a Priest is definitely world class UGLY! It is a miracle that it survived. Of course anything that ugly would never get used and worn out because no-one would be seen in it!
Jon Cole Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Built by Yamaha, who decided to stick a basket-handle wing on the front, instead of the rear… Volvo? Yellow? The 70’s, and the custom vans… Tatra- ugly is what they do! (did?) The Thompson Raise the Roof Four-Sleeper and Diner Cabin Sedan… Xeno III "Personal Concept Car"… More visual punishment to come later!
Peter Lombardo Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 If nothing else, this exercise has proven one thing....there is no shortage of bad taste out there....be it individuals with custom (and I use that term carefully) "one offs" or factory design studios.....there is plenty of "extreme ugly" to go around.
7000in5th Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Last time I entered one of these contests, I won a t-shirt. How about it, Greg? Above - This is a picture that I took at Road America in Wisconsin in the early '80's. The folks with me couldn't believe that I would "waste film (remember film?) on something like that". I had the last laugh when I submitted it to "Car & Driver" for their "10 Best Ugly Cars" competition in 1989 and it made the list and won me a T-shirt. It has been featured since then in the "Best of the Best" articles and, as of 2007-11-17, is the only "Ugly Car" entry shown in their "Best of the Best" web page. Some others for your viewing pleasure(?) Below - This one has kinda' grown on me, or maybe just because I loved Annie Potts in her movie debut: Below - And, back to the beginning with this rear end!
philo426 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Oh the Horror! Who descecrated the E-Type Jag Convertible? Oh no!
Joe Handley Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/23/automobiles/collectibles/23UGLY.html?_r=1 The more I think of it, the more I wonder what that car will look like when the swelling goes down The 70’s, and the custom vans… Believe it or not, a friend of that van's owner is on another forum I'm a member of and helped in the construction of it as well as worked for Chrysler in Ontario and customized the very first Dodge Caravan CV off the line (which is now in a Canadian Auto Museum with the first Caravan Passenger Van) and the owner of this wild van did the airbrushing on both vans. I had to ask him if it started as a GM G-Van or a Chrysler B-Van since the since the side kinda looked more G-Van (and had the exposed upper front door hinge), but the top of the windshield area looked a bit more B-Van like, and the roofs are close enough between the two brands that what's left of the stock roof could go either way. Turns out it was a Chevy and the reason the windshield looks B-Van like is that when they chopped it, they laid the a-pillars back so they could use the stock height windshield. The guy who helped build this van also had built a customized stub nosed Ford Econoline that had a chop with the windshield laid back in the same manner of the above van. After building it, he was driving around and had a cop pull him over and tell him the reason he pulled him over was that the windshield "didn't have enough enough square footage", to which the officer was told that he "didn't know what he was talking about" and that "It was a stock windshield" (but not that nicely).
Joe Handley Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Oh the Horror! Who descecrated the E-Type Jag Convertible? Oh no! Actually, other than needing a little work on the nose, it doesn't look too bad!
evilone Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Oh the Horror! Who descecrated the E-Type Jag Convertible? Oh no! if its the same guy that disrespected a hearse (earlier post in this topic) i say we go vlad the impailer on him i could use a yard decoration i'll just tell the cops its a fake body
Jon Cole Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) So far, from all we have seen here, I think the "White Elephant" that Harry showed us has to be the Numero Uno UG-Leee-ist car ever to exist! Let's see more! Edited July 20, 2010 by Jon Cole
Jon Cole Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 What? Did someone request more photos of the Jag? Yeah, I can provide that! I actually like it! I just hope a mint condition E-Type wasn't sacrificed for the custom.
Jon Cole Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 No shortage of ugly... none at all! TVR Speed 12... The ultra-rare French Winged Truffle... OH, YEAH! Sign us up for our Peugeot Moovie!
Modelmartin Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 I will match your French Winged Truffle and raise you a Thirty eyed Escargot-mobile! So there!
Scalper Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I will match your French Winged Truffle and raise you a Thirty eyed Escargot-mobile! So there! Scared of the dark eh.
Joe Handley Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) Does that car even make enough power to generate the electricity needed for all those lights? What? Did someone request more photos of the Jag? Yeah, I can provide that! I actually like it! I just hope a mint condition E-Type wasn't sacrificed for the custom. I stand corrected, looks like it needs some work on it's tush too Where did you take those pics, it looks like the park in Fairmont, Indiana! Edited July 20, 2010 by Joe Handley
puddingwrestler Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Behold it's awesome boot-li-ness: The 1948 Davis! And Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion. Which always looks like a slug to me, although I realise there are fans. I actually kinda like this one, but it can go either way. It's called 'The Phantom Corsair', but it apeared in a movie once under the name of 'The Flying Wombat' or some such nonesense... and I think the name on it's own qualifies. There are a few others, but I can't remember thier names - several have diamond wheel layouts.
Joe Handley Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) Ok, is choice #1 a sporty cousin to the Reliant Robin and #2 seems like it might want to stand on it's front end if you had to jump on the brakes too hard. #3 would is pretty neat looking, and wouldn't take much to update it and clean things up a bit further. Edited July 20, 2010 by Joe Handley
DanielG Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I like the '57-58-59 chev thing except for the oversize wheels/low profile tires, but then I hate them on anything!
Foxer Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 lol... the fish looks hapier then the fish The fish is also better designed
