Chuck Most Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 This was inspired by a Tim Boyd article in some other model car magazine (the one without "Model(s)" or "Car(s)" in the title ), where he converted a 4-door Chrysler wagon into a 2-door. Of course, I somehow took Tim's idea and ended up with... a '61 Olds sedan delivery. While the subject and style are totally different, just goes to show you don't need to follow the article 100%! The highlights include a C4 Corvette suspended '66 pro street Nova chassis rolling on Phantom Vicky Halibrands, the 4-door wagon to 2-door SD conversion, and of course, that 4.0 Aurora V8 backed up by a six-speed manual tranny. Should be just the thing for an express delivery, you think?
BHarrison Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Cool piece! I love that kit! Yours sits REALLY nice!
george 53 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Chuck, VERY nice job! The colors GREAT on it too. REALLY like the idea of the Aurora engine!
crazyjim Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Very nice build. Where did you get the body? Resin?
Chuck Most Posted August 16, 2010 Author Posted August 16, 2010 Very nice build. Where did you get the body? Resin? Nope- just the old Jo-Han kit...
bigmikevee Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Hey Chuck, Wow what a wonderful car, you did a fantastic job, that delivery will always be on time, just looks great, man oh man oh man!! This one really brings back memories for me, my mother loved convertibles and had, I believe a '62, F-85 convertible, white with blue interior, that is the car her and my father patiently taught me how to drive in at the local fairgrounds, such a cool little car, mom always liked the ragtops!! Traded that in on a Delmont (not Delta) Olds convertible, red in & out, a really huge cool car, ran like champ, lots of power and great drive-in car!! Where did you get this one at, would like to try my hand at one for the memories shelf, yours' just looks so sweet, and love the stance, you did a great job Chuck!! Thanks for posting for us. Mike
Scalper Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Nice build. have not seen this kit ever before.
Sixties Sam Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Great build, Chuck! If it was real, I would want it in my driveway! That would be a blast to drive with a 6 speed! That kit might be a good candidate for an El Camino type pickup conversion too. Your next project perhaps? Sam
charlie8575 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Interesting concept. I need to rebuild my '61 wagon. It was crusty when I did it at 13, and hasn't aged well. Time for a redo. Where did you find the Aurora engine? Charlie Larkin
Railfreak78 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 One word for you on this on Chuck : Beautiful!
Guest Johnny Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Sweet looking wagon! I have one I built over 30 years ago. Built stock, yellow with black and red interior! I need to dig it out one day and think it over again!
Chuck Most Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 (edited) Where did you find the Aurora engine? It comes with the Revell Shelby Series 1 kit- though it's molded to a late model Corvette torque tube/rear mounted transaxle setup. I cut all that stuff off and added a regular 6-speed transmission from a C4 'Vette. Thanks guys! Edited August 17, 2010 by Chuck Most
Tonioseven Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Beautiful work on it!! I have this wagon tucked away somewhere...
Jim0205 Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Love it low wide and it looks menacing . For such a big subject it appears very light and graceful almost. Job well done sir.
camaroman Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Great job Chuck... Very nice and convincing!!
