evilone Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 (edited) Well everyone knows that i have been in school for about a year now.But today i have completed the Ford F.A.C.T (ford accelerated certificate training)program. I have earned 12 certificates ranging from electrical repair to 6.4L diesel repair and diagnostics. This is a very proud moment i am sharing here because i view your guys here as a group of people that have helped and welcomed me(even when i was completely stupid) here. Now within the next three weeks i will also earn my california SMOG program certificates. With all the certs i have i will be able not to only get the basic technician pay when hired but i can ask for atleast $30/hr.Im also looking into the diesel program that UTI is going to offer at my school within the upcoming year or so for the fact that california will be smogging diesel trucks real soon. Now for my rave: If there is anyone toying with going to school at UTI i would like to tell you to go.It is far superior to aany other tech school out there. So stop thinking and just go you will be greatful when you do . Bill Eh? Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Congratulations for not only receiving your multiple certifications, but also for having the foresight to continue with specialized diesel training. Nothing like having the right credentials when the demand in a new area is just about to take off! Way to go Kevin!
Railfreak78 Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Man I am all kinds of mixed up here. Kevin I'm proud of you my friend. I'm glad your working in a direction that will support you over the years and support your hobby as well. Now my mixed part is what are they gonna do to those poor trucks with smog controls now? Ugh Congrats Kevin!
Guest Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Congrats Kevin, good job! I do have to say one thing, you can ASK for 30 a hour, but what companies are willing to pay right now is a diffrent matter entirely. I had to take a job 5 a hour less than my last one, and most were paying half what I was making. It is a employers market right now, lots of potental employees for every job.
Matt LeBlanc Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Congrats!!! As a Ford Senior Master tech i know how much time and effort it takes to finish all those courses.
Foxer Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Congratulations and glad to see you stuck with it and did so well!

charlie8575 Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Excellent work, Kevin. I taught for eight years and would've loved to see students with some dedication and concern for their own academic and career well-beings. Seeing what a nightmare most modern cars are, that anyone can figure out how to do something beyond changing the air filter (sometimes a major challenge in and of itself,) astounds me. As Lee pointed out, one thing to remember: although you have an earning potential of $x an hour, you may need to start a little lower to get your foot in the door. Once there, though, work hard, keep your training up and prove every day you know what you're doing and you'll make your projected potential, and possibly more. More importantly, you'll earn the respect of your employer, co-workers and customers. That which is not intrinsic- your good name, is worth more than all the money in the world. Charlie Larkin
Jon Cole Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Congratulations, Kevin! You have made progress! I will tell you tho... one possible omission... you meant to say you will have the opportunity to earn up to $30 starting pay. The possibility is indeed out there. Is your goal to get $30/hr immediately, or... first land a job? Here is your chance to make another good decision. Good luck, bud!
Terry Sumner Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Good going there kiddo! Just remember one thing though....there is one major difference between auto mechanicing and deisel mechanicing....the deisel job beats the heck out of your body over the years..ask any veteran deisel mechanic!
pharr7226 Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Congratulations Kevin. Thanks for sharing your great accomplishment with us. I wish you much success in your career. Rick
Raul_Perez Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Congratulations, Kevin!! Yes, you've come a long way. I, too, am glad to see that you stuck with it. Take care,
