I've got a 2008 Forester as well as this one which I've had for over 8 years and lavished a fair few dollars and hours on. The car itself is over twenty years old and is a Holden Calais- basically a precursor to your G8.

td01.jpg

It's a 304 cube push rod V8 with EFI. I've put a bigger cam in, changed the manifold, done some head work and a few other things to neaten it up.

nice holden, i take it you know Mighty Car Mods? marty and moog are awsome ppl!

and my old DD was a 1994 geo metro, i don't have it anymore, right now i get rides from friends or i ride my bmx trick bike whitch needs a rebuild, ugh.

I don't know, Mick, but that looks more like our Chevy Caprice up here in the states.

HIGHWAY......... the older holdens never was sold here in the states, when GM came out with the recent GTO is when they started to bring in holden cars, but converted them for our market. that holden MILD owns is also called the holden commodore and the holden berlina. no relation to any american market car.

fyi..... the holden calais (chassis VN 1988-1991) is also known as the toyota lexcen, but the toyota lexcen was offered with a 3.8l v6 and automatic only.

Possibly. That particular model was based heavily on an Opel- I've not heard that it had any thing to do with the Caprice. What year Caprice- I'd love to look more into it.

Here's another angle:

It might be my eye, but the passenger area looks like to resembles the early 90s Caprice like this one.

Thanks Brandon, I knew the new GTOs were more or less the Holden Monaro, but the earlier ones I never even know of. It's just like I just said to Mick above, in my eyes it appears like the Caprice in the midsection, but I've been lied to by my eyes before! ;)

Here's my '99 Silverado, daily driver, 5.3L/Auto. It just turned 200,000 miles last week. I've had it for about 8 years. It had quite a few less miles on it when I took this pic...

Here's the weekend toy, my '91 Mustang LX 5.0/T-5 5spd. It's a fun little car. More stock than not, so it's not terribly fast, but fun.

Here's a pic of the garage dweller, my '70 Chevelle Malibu, 350/700R4 that I've had for about 13 years now. It was my daily in high school, began sitting while I was in college, and now it needs a lot of work.

I had five 944's and they ARE reliable. Never seen the paint do that, though. How many miles on that puppy? Nice thing is the galvanized body keeps most rust away.

2008 Subaru Impreza. I only have little over 11,000 miles on it. 5sp. manual. (I've never owned an auto). I'm kinda torn on what to do right now. either put some money into this one (wheels, better stereo), or sell it and get a truck.

Hey a front Porch!!!laugh.gif I have seem them peel like that but it's only a few colors that do! If everything is right with one it is a great little car. But if not they are a pain in the butt to work on and expensive as heck when something breaks!

Rather have a 914 than one of those! 911 would be even better but cost too much!rolleyes.gif

I can't say I do actually- is it a forum?

I can definitely see the similarities in the Caprice. From the looks it's not actually one borrowing any panels from the other but the similarities are there. I reckon with a bit of careful cutting and slicing I could make a pretty close replica of my car out of one of those Caprice kits. That's a project I'll definitely file away for a rainy day!

As for the Lexen- it is a rebadged Commodore. Holden and Toyota had a crazy deal back in the day where both makes were rebadged and sold in the same market. I am unsure of the exact reasoning but it was political. Something to do with taxes if I remember correctly.

As for the Stato police only offering, that sounds very much like our Holden Caprice (the Caprice being the V8 Statesman. I seem to remember the Stato has now been dropped from the Holden line up).

There's no American built GM RWD V8 these days is there?

Just the Camaro now. I wish they'd pull their heads out of their fannies and just start making the Caprice as a standard-issue, normal full size car with six-passenger seating and a V8. Soon, we'll have no full-size cars to speak of, and none rear-drive (the 300/Charger just miss full-size by a couple cubic feet, I think.)I'd also be very happy if they started to make a wagon again, I hate SUVs and anything like them. I uderstand the Commodore wagons, at least until they redesigned them a couple of years ago came very close to the B-bodies in towing and cargo capacity. A car that can handle a 5000-pound trailer, around 90 cubic feet of cargo or eight people and still return 23-24 miles a gallon unladen has a lot to say for it. That's what my Caprice will do.

The American auto industry, even before the recession had lost its way, and Washington and the lawyers have only "helped" along in the process. Taunting those of us who like or want a full-size car with the new Caprice is just cruel.

Loving that Camaro John! I almost bought an SS like that about 10 years ago. They are unmistakable when you see them coming down the street. Does it have houndstooth interior?
