ewaskew Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I'm another one that wants to see the how to on this style of hinges also. The truck is looking good also.
Darin Bastedo Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Has the tutorial begun? I've started on the the project I'll be photgraphing this on. I will submit it when the work is finished.
Duntov Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Wow....very cool!!! I like it!!! Regards Bill (Duntov)
vaughn Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) Nice tutorial Doc. Good helpful stuff. Any hints on exposed hinges like for a Rolls ? Edited March 14, 2011 by vaughn
Iron Fist Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Very cool, might have to try that on my next build.
wisdonm Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Hey Dr., I need a prescription for one of those half round pliers. Where can I find one?
MikeMc Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) Hey Dr., I need a prescription for one of those half round pliers. Where can I find one? curt raitz Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Great video Virgil gonna make me try and do hinges again aren't ya... "she who must be obeyed" loves the background music...who's the artist and the song thanx
Brokentail58 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I am using that style of hinge on my 32 Ford project. The problem I am having is getting them to open into the body and not outside of it like on a 1:1. Do I just need to adjust the size of the bend in the wire ?
Bernard Kron Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 This is important stuff. Wire hinges are big, ugly and don't resemble anything in the 1:1 world... Can't wait fot the how-to!
Naydrus Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Very interested! Maybe now I wont be so afraid to cut my doors off my cars!
Mooneyzs Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 very nice!! Count me in with the others that would like to see a how to on this.
futurattraction Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Absolutely! As the others have said, there can't really be too many door hinge how-tos.
Darren B Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 (edited) Wow, I could have used that tut before I put such big ugly hinges on my 41 chevy pick up. Made the back of the cab really unsightly and the hinges make it look toy like. I agree with everyone else that they do not resemble anything in the real car/truck world. Hopefully for my next build will be able to use this idea. To late to start over. Like everyone else, will be looking forward to your tutorial. Thank you so much for sharing cant wait either.... Ron W. Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Need hinges for coups roadsters. I tried this....R/C model airplane hinges from the wings. The plastic is of a differenr materal,so you'll have to use super glue,or slow drying CA.Do NOT get any on the hinge pin ! found that out the hard way. this is on my 36 Ford. Now a close-up. If you look close you can see the front of the hinge that I run it through a slot through the cowl, and glued it to the firewall. It's covered up by the hood. Worked well on this also. Better than those small ones in this kit.
Darren B Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) Not finished yet, but soon. Cool I have a few more projects ready to start but before i cut the body panels want to make sure i can use a more realistic style hinge. One thing i was thinking of is that for trunks the wire hinge isnt to far off for looking ok. As looking at my trunk hinge its pretty close, but not for the doors... Edited May 5, 2011 by Darren B
shucky Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 This may offer "realistic operation" but how on earth would this look realistic on a model? A thick piece of styrene with a hole and a wire pin passing through it? What about the unsightly gap of the inner door panel and door skin? The gap looks huge?
Corvette.Jeff Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 looks a million times better than the alternative!!!
Darren B Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 looks a million times better than the alternative!!! I agree, it might have a large gap but even that gap can be disguised somehow.
