Yes Dan, it is. But it just came off the 'stalled' list today as I got the front wheel sleeves back from the machinist and patched the body back together.

The time it took to surf through this thread I could have used to progress some of my stalled builds, but man, what would I have missed! This is better than any art gallery.

Entirely btw, I beat you all: In addition to my stalled builds, over the past 30 years I have acquired at least 500 stalled builds from other modellers, just to stall them further!

Well Cristian, I have over 1100 kits in my collection with more than half started.

But that is why I love looking through this thread; to see what everyone else has started/almost finished and the ideas that were put into plastic. This gives me a sense of both 'wow' and belonging to see that others have done/are doing cool things with their kits.

Actually, the past few years I bought mainly abandoned projects, since the prices for minters went way beyond my income group. In addition to these, I may have in the neighborhood of 100 kits I started myself, and about 600 unstarted ones.

Looking through this thread is like a revellation. The imagination those people have is unbelievable! A lot of the stuff is so cool the way it is, it would be a shame to finish it.

Once a model is finished, it is just that. Finished. I often find myself thinking that when the last finishing touch has been added, the excitement is gone. Hence I often gave/give my finished models away. Actually most of them. I hardly have any. If I want to display a finished model, I buy a diecast.

I think it is the equivalent of writers block, which has been summed up as, the writers desire to write brilliantly out of the box.

It is a combination of desire, ability, skills and the envisioned outcome or final piece. How many times that we envision the final model but along the way, this didn't turn out quite right, and this is off, I have no idea how to do that and million other little things come up along the way. I think we get to the point where more is wrong with a project that right, or fear of not doing good enough we put it off to the side. Maybe we learn or develop the skills and ability to tackle that project again, maybe not.

All that I know is I have more started than finished ones so I guess that makes me somewhat of an expert on the subject, yeah?

Sometimes, I just get tired of working on the same kit.

Yes...and all of the above. I don't place that much emphasis on finishing, so if I lose interest, I'll trade it, part it out, sell it, or generally move on from it. Nothing's worse that forcing yourself to continue spending time on something you'd rather not.

I definitely agree about the lack of skill causing a project to stall, but the good news is you can almost always improve that skill, then jump back in where you left off, now fully quipped to complete what you previously couldn't. I pretty much did that with one of my stalled projects, though on problem wasn't entirely to blame.

A quick or radical departure from the starting vision is probably cause for many builds to derail and/or stall, but it can also lead to entirely new projects and ideas, so it's not always a negative. I try to keep in the back of my mind those ideas I envisioned which didn't work out, in case they can be applied to another project, even if it requires some re-working or re-engineering. If you feel you have a good idea, remember it, or better yet, write it down.

I also find viewing other member's projects, either in progress or completed, will spark something and inspire me to at least get a stalled project back out to look over, even if I don't immediately jump back in with both feet.

My love of this hobby is being creative, I have yet to build anything without hacking it up. The problem I have is once it's taken shape, I've somewhat achieved my goal of making it my creation. I also have this compulsion of wanting poseable front wheels and all the doors, hood, and trunk should open. I have so many models that I've completed the body mods, made or modified the frame and interior to fit. And then I start getting bored. I also have a very short attention span.  I wish I had more of an urge to complete my projects, but many times I see a kit or body out of the corner of my eye and an idea pops into my head and off I go with a new project. Hey look something shiny, I gotta go.

That never happens to me.

I started this VW Bus in 2003.  I wrecked three perfectly good models when I started.  But since then, have acquired fiber-optic "cable" (not like the real communications, but a party thingie), and LED lights that car dealers send in junk mail.  I had just pulled it out recently, so great topic!

The other picture was taken years ago, when I had several projects waiting for the moon to drop.  I have finished the Golf (Nick Of Time diorama), Civic (Sintegra), Porsche Speedster Turbo, Miata (Monster 5.0).  So unless I start something new, I have the Bus, Bigatti, and a Chevy Canopy Express to finish up.

Here's a picture of my work bench. Note the shelves over it hold most of my unfinished projects.  I keep them here so I have to look at and acknowledge them, not packed away and forgotten.  These are the ones I hope to finish someday.  They've been beached for all the reasons in this thread.. lost interest, lack of skill and couldn't figure out the next step. Add "it was coming out so good I was afraid I'd screw it up!" to that list.

Each year I take the week between Christmas and New Years off from work. I found it was too short a span to build a complete model, but an ideal amount of time to finish some old relic that's maybe 50%, 75% and even 90% finished already.  So I do my annual Christmas Model Car Amnesty Project every year.

Dragging it over the finish line in time for NNL East 2018

I am starting to have a lot of projects stalled because I cant get my paint order, but...

Since I got back into the hobby,  the rule I made was I finish every project I start,  and that has kept me honest for the most part, right now I have three unfinished projects that was started new that I can think of.

I do have a like three do over projects but I am not counting those as thet were once finished
