BigBlockLyle Posted January 28, 2011 Share Posted January 28, 2011 Ok, here are some pics of where I'm at with this so far. It started as a junk cab the I got with a box of parts and a frame. I painted the cab Chevrolet Orange Engine Paint. I'm using an original 1982 4x4 Stepside Chevy by MPC as a donor for the front axle and for some other various parts such as the wheels. I am on the search for some old school tires for it, like you would see in the 80's on 4x4's. I found 2 Firestones from the MK 79 F350 and would love a full set (PM me if anyone has a set they can part with.) This truck will have the beacon light on top and will have a diamond tread flatbed. Second I have seen people skip out on the roof spotlights. Are they an option on freightliners or is it a neccesary item? 3rd item of business is I dont quite understand how the mirrors go together. The picture doesnt explain it very well at all. Does someone have close up pictures or an explanation on how they fit together? Justin, the Aerial is a radio antenna, AM/FM not CB. The spotlights are an option, even on today's 1:1 trucks, and typically are just on the driver's side usually. The main purpose is for maybe looking at a building to read an address or something like that, I never had any spots on any of the trucks I drove but I guess that would be a good use for them. Not sure if the spots are a factory option or not. Highway might know. They are easy add on. Useful for finding street signs and address numbers. Useful for backing into a tight spot too if you can shoot them down the side of the truck. I made local runs and our docks had yellow stripes around them. You could turn a spot down on that yellow stripe to help you see how to center the trailer in the door. If it's not centered the spring loaded dock plates wont fit inside the trailer. You only have a few inches of play on each side, so you need to hit your marks. Can't help you on the mirrors. I don't have a Freight that I am working on and I don't have any of the mirrors ready to go on mine either. Maybe post a pic of your box top and instructions and I'm sure someone can help. I detailed the grille up to be a basic GMC grille (Base model style) got the suspension set about where its going to be, I may lift it slightly. I got the bed made along with the rear drop down. That is a Cummins NTC-350 painted Cummins Beige #233 Plasti-Kote Engine Enamel. It's hooked up to a Spicer 16 spd tranny. Was not sure if red was a factory color, but I found Google pic of them in black,grey, and red. Box showed it in red, so that's what I went with. If you can find an extra someone's willing to part with, would the plow from this work? According to the box, it says it's and 84" wide plow, and from looking the kit over, it looks like it might fit a pickup well. One one of these, I'm even thinking of building a larger plow for the front and using the kit plow as a wing plow. Also, if you have any questions on plows or the salt spreaders, feel free to PM me, I used to drive plows for the WV DOT for a little while back in 2000 and 2001. Thanks Lyle, you might have to wait, LOL still got a whole interior to do and suspension to finish, then there exhuast and to finish the booms which I swore I was going to do last night. Anyway, got some of the decals on, and 1 coat of clear, some stuff has been cleaned up and/or removed. And I have been tinkering with the frame and suspension set up. Well, I finally got a chance to do a qiuck mock up of the plow, and if this is supposed to be an 84 inch plow, I'll eat my hat! Here is the main plow piece in front of an old Revell wrecker. Even though it's not the best pic, I measured the blade itself with my 1/25 scale ruler, and the blade is a scale 12 feet wide. I could trim it length wise and cut it down height wise to make it more P/U appropriate. Now to find one. what about the snow plow from the RoG Unimog? Of course there not finished products, they still need cleaned up and smoothed.
