Deckerz Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Am i looking at models or real trucks? They are so detailed man, great work!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 Thanks, folks. I am making slow progress on the boom, but here's where I'm at now:
Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 I had to add a few shims for the thing to sit perfectly squared and centered. All this paint chipping makes me miss the salting technique where you just brought out a pinch of salt and BOOM, it's be on there . . . holy cow, this stuff is TEDIOUS!!! Well at least I like the way the engine looks up front! Stay tuned in for more progress . . .
mikeD1 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 i love them !! where did you get the web from??
Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 I bought it off Ken Hamilton a while back . . . he sells some pretty cool etch elements, although I don't know if he has any more left . . . http://www.wildharemodels.com/

Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 You bet. That shopping cart really is one of those details that makes any set up or diorama jaw-dropping. For example, a pick up truck with one of those carts on the bed . . . enough said.
Foxer Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 All this paint chipping makes me miss the salting technique where you just brought out a pinch of salt and BOOM, it's be on there . . . holy cow, this stuff is TEDIOUS!!! This sounds to be as realistic weathering as it gets! Do you think this is any faster than what it took my 1:1 VW bug to rust thru the floor pan?
Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 --to take a little break and refresh my eyes I took this one outside for a photo-op on an old Cranky "gunk" base . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 Just a couple more: This one is my fave:
pharr7226 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Fantastic work as always. I love the dio too.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 Thanks for watching. It's been lots of fun.
Chuck Most Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Thanks for watching. It's been lots of fun. And, it's gotten me started on a '37 Ford pickup of my own.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 HA! I knew it. Go crazy, Chuck! Have fun, and please post progress pics.
tuffone20 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Wow what a great build!! And it looks right at home in that photo!!!
carrucha Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Great job on the trucks. Very realistic weathering job.
southpier Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 for some reason i thought it would have rail flanges. great job
runsw/scissors Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Once again I am awe struck. As one of the guys put it, " I'm a modeler you're an artist". I enjoy watching your threads I learn something from each one, that I will more than likely try in the future. You have a real talent for this and I admire your skill. Keep inspiring us to challenge ourselves. Thanks.
Jantrix Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 After watching these hairspray weathered trucks come about, I've gotta say the hairspray looks much better on a beater work truck than a weathered rod. The work truck is gonna take a beating, gonna be dinged and chipped and battered. The neglected, weathered car .... not so much. I think the salt technique does a much better job replicating authentic weathering and rust thru's. Regardless, your constant experimentation has been an inspiration to many builders. Thanks very much.
juergen Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Hello !!! Whow !!! Greatful built !!! it´s imazing your weathering and the dio. Did i read right - you scratchbuilt the boom ??? do you have more fotos from the built ??? I love it so much !!!! greets Juergen
