Have you guys run into this color in a less than styrene safe lacquer and in a spray can? It's called Jeep Steel Blue Pearl clear coat and a guy on a couple other forums I'm a member of wants me to paint up a Proline '92 Cherokee body up to match his last one (drunk took it out :( ) that was painted that color. Problem is that the local dealer doesn't have any and there are two dealers that do have it but can't transfer it to this one and there is a nationwide back order on it on top of it :(

My family owns a jeep dealership, if you send me the part number for the mopar paint I'll check stock and send it to ya if they have it.

The gal at the dealer I went to gave me this one XBQ and PBQ from the book she had at the counter, I appreciate at you checking though!

have you tried going to body shops see if they can mix something to match it

I need something in a spray can, not sure where my airbrush is right now and I'm trying to do it for as cheap as possible so I can paint it then ship it to Indiana for no more than $60...including shipping.

Next to the mopar part # in the book at the dealer there should be a Sherwin williams paint code that any body shop or paint shop could mix for you. I would check around all the paint supply places, I bet one of them can mix it and load it into a rattle can. Costs about 15 bucks here at our local carquest. Its a single stage paint, there is usualy some left over after loading the can to use in an airbrush latter on.

But if this is a lexan proline body, then you might not get anything to stay on it after the first flip. Mopar paint of paint supply paint.

Have you tried Dupli-Color? Maybe you can check with your local auto parts store to see if Dupli-color carries this color. If they do not have it on hand, perhaps they will order it for you.

Joe, I used to run a Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealership, and I acquired many different cans of Mopar spray paint. I have a new un-used can of Steel Blue. You are more than welcome to it, 5175118451_896dc6df74.jpg

but I am in New Jersey and you are in Chicago. Figure out how we get it to you and you can have it for only the cost of the transportation. This is Lacquer and requires a good solid plastic safe primer under it. I use Rust-oleum Automotive Primer, available at your local hardware store, with no problem. Let me know. Pete

Any automotive paint store should be able to mix that color for you and put it in a spray can. The NAPA warehouse near me does it also.

You can mail it via surface mail.

Aerosol Paint Products. Aerosol paint products that are defined as flammable compressed gases are acceptable in the domestic mail via surface transportation only if they can qualify as ORM–D materials and meet the quantity limitations and applicable packaging requirements in 342.3, 342.4, and DMM 601.10.12.

A single can of spray paint qualifies under both ORM-D and limited quantities. You need go to your post office and see exactly how they want it packaged and labeled, but the general gist is it has to be inside a sealed plastic or metal container that would capture the entire contents of the can if it somehow discharged in transit.

Let me check with one of my local P.O.'s on that Tuesday, I think I have a can of Moss Green or Crystal Black CC at home that I can take in and ask if they can give me an answer. Thanks Pete, I appreciate it!

Luckily, I won't be needing primer for this since it's being applied to the inside of a clear body, but it's nice to know what to use if I want to try it on Styrene at some point :) ) Luckily the Mopar stuff is one of the best lexan paints I've found, it's just as good as Pactra's R/C and Model Master's 2 stage lacquer lines and is priced comparably to them tooB)

Ok Joe, just let me know what you find out and I will do what you want with it. Pete
