Plasticfanatic Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Simply BEAUTIFUL work, love the engine!!!
cruz Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 Cruz, this is lookin' mighty sharp! If you had a spare kit, the engine alone would look fantastic sitting next to the built example it's that nice! Thanks Bill, I do have 2 more of these kits, once done with this one I will think about that. One thing I do want to do is to make sure and get some better and more finely detailed carbs for these engines, I want to be able to display it without the air filter assembly at the top. Here are a few photos of the dash, I placed the decals in their respective places and dumped a few drops of Future Acrylic to simulate the glass. I prefer using Future for this because it will not yellow over time. I still have to detail the knobs and other small details later though, will probably install some P/E keys and keychain... Erik Smith Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Great looking build. I love the look of the engine with the wash - I use Citadel products also. The other colors I have been using are Gryphonne Sepia and Devlan Mud - they add a nice contrast to the black when applied in layers. The Future in the gauges is nice too, although I ruined one set of gauges I printed out on the computer and did not seal. The future lifted the ink as it was drying. Nice Work!
cruz Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 I have completed the interior, detailed the rims and also started working around the detail in the trunk. Here are the pictures.... Kanedge Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Nice work. How did you do your wheels, masked off and sprayed or handpainted?
cruz Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 Nice work. How did you do your wheels, masked off and sprayed or handpainted? Thanks bro! Those were hand painted using the 2 brushes in the picture, I thought it was too much work masking those things...
Jantrix Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Fantastic work. Your attention to detail is excellent.
edward smith Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 This is great work on a difficult kit, I tried putting one of these together last year and ended up putting it right back in the box, specially when it was time to install the engine to the chassis. These are really challenging kits to build. Have you had any issues up to now? I mean, these things are terribly designed.
Modlbldr Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I'm loving the work done here. Nice and clean. I can't wait to tear into all of my Fujimi Porsche kits. Keep it up. Later-
cruz Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 Thanks guys and yes, it's an extremely challenging kit, right now I am not too far from throwing it against the wall. The chassis to body fit issues are going to be crazy, it's the main reason I have not painted the body yet, I am doing a lot of test fitting to try to make it eassier at the end.....
Zoom Zoom Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Thanks guys and yes, it's an extremely challenging kit, right now I am not too far from throwing it against the wall. Yep, and the biggest issues are when you choose to open up the front compartment and put in all those parts. I believe it's the firewall that makes for the most "fun". After building multiples of this kit, I learned to leave everything you can't see in front of the dash off the chassis, because otherwise there's lots of agonizing work to make the stupid thing fit together as intended.
vaughn Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Love the detail and the challenge you are faced with. No doubt...this will be a winner! Where can I get some of the wash?
cruz Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Thank you guys, the challenge is just part of the fun, I just hope I don't get discouraged. If you "Google" Games Workshop you will be able to purchase the washes from them, also, if you have a Games Workshop store near you.
made007 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 looking really good marcos, i like the 5 poind seat bealt, i have to do the same to my 49 merc, but im gonna try to use a black ribbon with the PE kit

Cruz, please don't get discouraged, you have come a long way and it's also a build I am sure that everyone here wants to see completed. I have one of these kits and this is the future reference information I will use if I ever dare to build it.
meaneyme Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Hey Cruz! Any updates on this build? Really interested to see what are you up to with it.
RJ44 Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Very cool project. The engine looks outstanding. Rob

cruz Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Sorry guys, sometimes life kinda gets in the way... I will try to update soon....

Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki can you just decant some clear coat spray to get the same effect? or does it need to be future, having a hard time finding an equivelant over here.
cruz Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Finally got some paint on this thing, Tamiya Pure White, will not be using clear on this one. I do have to wet sand and polish later and finish up with a good coat of wax once the decals are placed around the body. LAone Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 looks good bro. looking forward to seeing this one done.
edward smith Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Hey, if I had a paintjob that smooth, i wouldn't even bother touching it after that, I think I would ruin it. Question? You say that you wax at the end after the decals? Why not before? Do you actually wax on top of the decals also? By the way, panel lines look great as usual, are you still applying another dark wash at the end?

By the way, panel lines look great as usual, are you still applying another dark wash at the end? I never place decals on a waxed surface, decals don't stick too well when doing this. What I do is wetsand my finish first and polish, I will then place my decals and at the end, wax the whole thing, decals and all. I will apply more wash on my panel lines at the end, this is a white car so those panel lines have to pop, right now they don't look too even.
