Danno Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 No bovine scatology. Real snow. Right here in town. THAT's only happened twice in the 15 years I've lived here. Well, it's a big deal to us, anyway.
Gregg Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 The last time was when I was there, right Dan? That was sooooo cooooolllll! Literally!
Railfreak78 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 This is the 3rd time I remember seeing it as a 32 year Native and it is so new everytime. I did not get a lot at work but I made work go on with out me so I could enjoy it. People thought I was nuts for being outside in the cold and wind but I was happy to get some flakes on video
Guest Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 All I can say is thank God for global warming!
David G. Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Yup. I remember in 1998 enough snow stuck to the cars that my son and I were able to have a snowball fight in the front yard... at his 10th birthday party. Best. Party. Ever. David G.
crazyjim Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Did you get the snow because of cold temps and winds from the north? We were 17 degrees Tuesday morning because of the weather from the north. I think Canada should keep their cold weather to themselves. I've already mentioned this issue to Nick.

Wow Jim, we were nowhere near that cold in Phx. Seventeen degrees is cold for anywhere, let alone Florida. I feel for you guys. I don't know the final numbers, but the projected lows for last night were upper 20s to low 30s. Our winter storms come in from the Pacific Ocean through California or the Northwest; we're too far west to get much from Canada. Regards, David G.
JustBill Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 This is NUTS! Just nuts! I say around here all the time that if it weren't for my wife I'd move to the desert where it never gets cold and you don't have to worry about the snow. Is there no place safe and warm anymore?!?! Glad you guys can enjoy it I've grown to hate snow!
crazyjim Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Couple of days were very cold David G. Right now it's sunny and 63 going to 74. The weekly forecast is showing mid 70s daytime and mid 50s at night. I'm going to take advantage of the warmth and get the outdoor Christmas decorations taken down. I don't think the reindeers like the warm sunshine.

Glad you guys can enjoy it I've grown to hate snow! Oh, we'll pay for it in July & August when the overnight lows are 95*-100*! Or the daytime highs range from 110 to 113 for days on end. Usually, the natives take to sweaters and light jackets when the daytime highs drop below 70! Took me awhile to get used to that ... about a year ... when I caught myself putting on a sweater. Came from the Colorado Rockies where we saw a lot of snow, measured the above-average snowfalls in feet not inches, had occasional "snow days" where you didn't have to go to work or school because you couldn't get out, and where sweaters weren't uncommon 3/4 of the year. Took a little getting used to ... like I said, about one season! LOL. It's all about what we're accustomed to. In Colorado, snow was nothing. Roads were rarely closed despite feet of snow. Here, the central part of the state was closed yesterday (every major highway and all the freeways) because of 12-18" of snow.
Harry P. Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 To quote the Cowardly Lion... "Unusual weather, ain't it?" The high today is supposed to be 55 here. That's pretty warm for end of December in Chicago. Yesterday pretty much all the snow cover we had melted away. Darn Russians and their crazy weather experiments!
Greg Myers Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I just got off the phone with friend living in northern North Dakota near the Canadian border. He said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still falling. The temperature is dropping way below zero and the north wind is increasing to near gale force. His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and just stare. He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in.
Modelmartin Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Darn Russians and their crazy weather experiments! Nah! That isn't it. Ronald Reagan messed up the weather and it hasn't been right ever since!! We had over 30 inches of snow in December and it was raining and 41 yesterday! Most of that snow that I very carefully shoveled and piled high has melted away now.
MikeMc Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 We had heavy frost....does that count........ 100 Miles north of Havana???
Agent G Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Actually that was all headed for us however we were able to divert the snow to Arizona. 29 degrees this morning on the way to the office. It's warmer in the midwest than here in the Mojave desert. Horrific winds too. December of '08 we got 6" of heavy wet snow, worst snowfall in 35 years. Viva Las Vegas! G
Bruno Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I think Canada should keep their cold weather to themselves. I disagree! Besides, it's raining here in Quebec right now

Right now we Here in Wyoming are at -2 Degrees, and it is snowing like you would not believe! I have to go out soon and Sweep the Snow off of my car , That's always the fun part. And Yes I do wish that Canadian Cold Fronts should stay there , no offense intended to my Canadian fellows, as I am Half French Canadian from my Fathers side .

Jon Cole Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Wow... snowing in Phoenix! The weather has been out of whack for quite a while now. A meteorologist once explained "global warming" as out of balance weather patterns, and extremes that continue over a period of time. Whoever named it "global warming" really blew it. Even unusually cold weather can be a result of these screwy weather patterns.
niteowl7710 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 (edited) Sounds like things are just cycling around to me. Afterall I can point you to any number of "Blizzard of 19xx" here in Pittsburgh during the 40's & 50's...then the big snows seemed to go away until we got that 28 inches at one time last March. To me Global Warming isn't a political issue as much as common sense. How can I possibly believe some forecast of what's allegedly going to happen in 50 years, when my local weather guy can't even forecast 3 days in advance correctly? I dunno exactly where we spun into a "worst thing that ever happened to ME" as being the yardstick of measurement. I mean if the science is correct all of the continents were once attached to one another, everything was covered in ice, and then the majority of the South West was well under water. Why aren't we actively searching for a solution for when the continents finally drift far enough to run into each other again? We measly humans like to think we're so important, but in the grand scheme of things one of those super volcanoes could sneeze tomorrow and we'll just be fossils in a few years. moparmagiclives Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 It brings back good times reading your posts. I was there in 98/99 going to school at UTI, it snowed. the world stopped. My friends and I couldnt figure out why. We were all from Washington. kinda funny watching every car pull off the road..like in a big hurry to.. Man I totaly forgot about that. Thanks for sharing.
crazyjim Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 There was an article in the Reader's Digest several years ago about weather forecasting. The people on TV had ~40% accuracy while the Farmer's Almanac was about 80% accurate. Why I don't have a Farmer's Almanac, I can't tell you.

Yep. That "snow storm" in '98 was all of ... slightly under a half-inch "accumulation" in Scottsdale and a little over an inch in Downtown Phoenix, but you'd a thought it was a 100-year flood! Traffic was completely out of whack and the city's street department was running around trying to find its plow. (Note to Northerners: Yup. Plow ... singular. One city of 3 million, one snow plow.) UTI's still here; moving to a big new campus and office complex. Have a Happy New Year!
