Jantrix Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) My fifeteen year old son watched me finish this up tonight. He asked, "Dad, you like out doing yourself, don't you?" I replied, "Why else do it?" A heck of a great compliment from my boy. This is the first part of a shop truck and trailer combo. The trailer seemed like fun so it was the first done. The truck will be an AMT 34 Pick-up (flatbed/duelie) that will be mildly weathered. I'll be adding tail lights and license plate when the truck is done. And this will be filled with cardboard boxes and what not of old weathered parts and stuff. It still needs another wash or two I think, the separation between the rust and paint is too defined and needs a thin wash to help blend the areas. I'll also add some pastels in the inside between the boards and other crevises. I'm real happy with the way it turned out. I gotta tell you guys, this is super easy to do. No salt on this one. Just layered acrylics and some rubbing alcohol. The gritty rust is just matte clear acrylic with baking soda sprinkled on and rusty washes over the top. If you have wanted to do a rust bomb, don't be shy. Edited January 18, 2011 by Jantrix
mikemodeler Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 nice job Rob, very realistic and great details. The bed floor looks real and the whole thing captures the look of an old trailer perfectly. I travel the Carolinas and Virginias in my job and I have seen many of these sitting along side barns and garages, not to mention in many yards and fields. Keep em coming!
Jantrix Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Thanks guys. I appreciate the ata-boys.
trogdor Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Looks ugly, in a beautiful sort of way. really nice job, it's very believable.
crazyjim Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Nice, Rob. The wood floor and tailgate look fantastic and the basket on the front is just right.
David G. Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I can almost smell the rust and dirt on this one. The basket is a nice touch too. David G.
Kanedge Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Very realistic, well done. Look forward to seeing it with the truck when done.
cruz Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 This is great, I have to practice and get going on my weathering techniques, there's much to learn from builds like this! Thanks for sharing!
Clay Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Great job Rob. I am glad you found a use for the 34 ford truck I sent. I may so a show set with the 99 Lightning f150.
Jantrix Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Yeah Clay, the shop truck was the plan all along. I'm just really pleased to be able to use an original AMT 34. Thanks very much.
Dragline Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 SUPERB. I have only commented EVER on pieces that I like. This is truly fantastic. Take that for what it's worth. Bob
