71drolds Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 this is my new build. i've been wanting to build a chevelle ive had sitting around for a while. i wanted to build a totally rusted out, beat down, ###### box car and experiment with weatering and rust for the first time. i want it to look as if it was broken down in 1976 and never touched again until it was just bought. this was my insperation, only i want it to look crappier i cut off the front clip, trimmed, filled, and reshaped the front half of the frame this is the first time ive ever tried to open anything so i just went with the trunk and im making a new trunk floor for it im flocking the interior and the brown spots are supposed to be torn, wornout carpet im in the process of trimming and fabing parts of the firewall. also in the works are the front edges of the door jambs and hinges since they are now exposed with no front clip. im going to mix-match the wheels and tires a bit with wide aluminum slots in the back and bare rally wheels in the front on bald tires. by the way, i got the rally wheels with no caps from bandit resin and they look outstanding!
Jantrix Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Looking forward to seeing more. Keep it going pardner.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Very cool. I want to see more . . . LONG LIVE RUST!
VW Dave Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Living in the northeast, the 'buckle of the rust belt,' weathered models have become some of my favorite projects.....I'll be keeping an eye on this one for sure. Looks great so far!
71drolds Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 got some more work done tonight. this is my jig for making tire wear that i attach to a drill and rub a piece of fine sandpaper on. this is the fire wall i fabbed up using part of the stock firewall and four more pieces of styrine. you can also see the front part of the doors between the body and the interior where the door hinges will mount. i figured since i opened the trunk i better detail it.
Rudy Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Wow I am really impressed with your work and the level of detail!! What did you use to make the rust holes in the body? Rudy
David G. Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 This one looks like it'll be fun to watch. David G.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 These details are going to pay off BIG in the long run. Great follow through. Keep it going.
crazyjim Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Some very interesting techniques going on here.
71drolds Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 Wow I am really impressed with your work and the level of detail!! What did you use to make the rust holes in the body? Rudy i used a small round rasp in my dremel and did all the grinding from the back side until it was paper thin and then used a small dentist pick from the front to poke through and tear the plastic.
71drolds Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 i got the firewall fab work finished and painted. i decided to open up the center console. i wish i would think of these ideas before i paint stuff!
